Congrats and best of luck during TTC! I haven’t started but went to my doctor for a preconception visit. It’s weird that you were told not to start taking prenatals.  I was told to start now, and have read that it is beneficial to start from as soon as a year to three months before you start trying.

@SimplyChic11:  I just went off the pill 2 weeks ago and am terrified and excited as well. I have been waiting and my husband keeps putting it off but we’ve decided it’s time. The doctor did tell me to take prenatals for 3 months before conceiving so we’ll be waiting until around Thanksgiving to start trying. It also gives me time to look into the Aflac maternity plan to help cover some of the costs, you need to have the plan 10 months before you deliver.

@SimplyChic11:  It’s probably fine to go ahead and start trying, my doctor was reluctant to say this but she did say if I had been taking a multi prior to now she’d have given me the go ahead. The biggest concern is the folic acid, if you don’t have enough folic acid your child could be born with neural tube defects. My co-worker’s first son was actually one of the test subjects about 25 years ago when they were determining what caused neural tube defects and in his specific case his wife didn’t have enough folic acid during the second week of pregnancy. I have no idea how they pinned it down so specifically but it definitely made me want to make sure I have enough folic acid.
