I’m fairly new to the Bee, I’ve done some lurking on the forums in the last few weeks, but today I wanted to share my beautiful engagement story with all of you!
I’ve actually been engaged since the beginning of August when my then boyfriend (Mr. Brown)and I were vacationing in Rome, Italy with my parents. I’d hoped he might pop the question while we were in Europe (we’d been in Paris for a week before) but it didn’t look like any proposals would happen before the end of our trip. Honestly, I wasn’t too stressed or upset whenI thought it wouldn’t happen on vacation; I wanted to just appreciate the fact that I was in Europe with a fantastic man. On August 4, 2011, Mr. Brown, my parents and I all went out to do a little shopping (which I love haha!) and it was an extremely warm day. My parents got tired of shopping before I did, so they decided to head back to out hotel in the early afternoon. Mr. Brown insisted that after shopping, he and I should go to the Pincio Terace which overlooked the Piazza de Popolo as it had an amazing view of the whole city. I agreed on the condition that we also get gelato because I was so hot.
We took a cab up to the Terrace and took some pictures of the city and each other standing by the edge of the Terrace. It was very, very beautiful there, but honestly I was tired and hot and thirsty and I wanted to cool down and go back to our hotel. After we’d stood there for a few minutes, I’ll admit I began to get a little antsy and I looked around, finding a gelato stand close to us. I turned, excitedly to tell Mr. Brown about the gelato, and I realized that he’d slipped his arm around my waist and was holding open a ring box. My heart went into my throat when he asked me to marry him, I don’t think I could even say more than “Oh, oh, are you serious? Omigod…” I finally managed to say “yes, yes of course!” and I started to cry. It was so beautiful, my hand shook when he put the ring on it. A group of tourists were standing near us and they all told us congratulations. It was the most amazing moment of my life and I will never in a million years forget the feeling. We left for our hotel almost instantly because I wanted to tell my parents and Mr. Brown’s family right away. And you know what? We never did get that gelato that day haha
So that’s it! I know my story isn’t elaborate and honestly, we didn’t even get a picture taken right afterward, but it was so special. Even though I was sweaty and disheveled from the heat haha I’m excited to start planning my wedding in July, 2013!
Here is a picture of Mr. Brown and I the night of our engagement, we’d just gone out to a celebratory dinner:
