My husband was watching our newborn and she was just laying there sleeping when he noticed she started flailing and started turning beat red because she couldn’t breath in. Then she started crying but it still took her a bit to inhale. She’s been fine since but we are worried…
Has this happened to you? Is it normal? What can we do? Thanks ladies 🙂

This sounds like acid reflux maybe. I`ve heard of similar reactions from reflux.
Either way, I`d see the doctor ASAP. This is something that needs to be addressed by a professional.

Talk with a dr.. Call them and tell them what is going on…
It could be acid reflux, may need medication, it could be something else

i think it’s normal, considering that she’s still adjusting to the new environment (from her water-world in the womb) to having to use her lungs. but it’s best to ask your doctor about that to clear up any worries.

This happened with our little gal on more than one occasion. When we mentioned it to our midwife, she said its usually due to mucus in the lungs that’s making it’s way out (since they were breathing amniotic fluid until a short time ago). Some babies are more mucusy than others (if they get pushed out really quickly, there isnt as much time for the contractions to squeeze the liquid out of their lungs, or if they are born by c-section).
They told us to turn her on her side, so she can work it out easier. Definitely scared the heck out of us every time it happened!! It does get better though. As PPs have suggested, ask you doctor about it just to be sure, as it could be reflux too.
Oh, and we found that she was pretty congested in the first few weeks due to the mucus too. So we used saline drops and a nasal aspirator (nosefrida) and that made a world of difference in her breathing 🙂
