- Wedding: May 2011
Hey everybody. I just recently started coming on here … since me and my SO started talking about getting married. I have posted a few comments, but I wanted to make it official… We are officially engaged 🙂 I am very excited… as you all are to be getting married. Our proposal story is really cute (well at least I think so)… sorry for the length though….
So we had picked out my ring by chance one day at an antique shop. It’s a beautiful 1930s ring that I just fell in love with. I think he felt bad at first that he didn’t get to pick it out himself and buy it as a surprise, but we agreed that if I really felt it was the one, then it made for a nice story. But he insisted on the actual proposal being a surprise, so I didn’t get it that day. He waited about a month or so. He started dropping hints like “Buy a nice dress, I’m taking you out to dinner next weekend” and “We’re going for a hike, bring your camera” We also had a Mets v. Phillies game coming up (he’s a Phillies fan, I’m a Mets fan), so I thought maybe that could be it. So he really had me going. We went for a hike on Hawk Mountain in PA. He was being super sweet and always wanted to be alone. We finally found a rock alone together, but he didn’t work up the nerve fast enough, til people came and interrupted. As we were walking and commenting on what a workout the hike was, I just said “Well you know, you gotta stay in shape if you’re going to carry me over the threshold.” He just smiled and said, “Well we have to be engaged first to get married.” At which point he took the ring out of his pocket and asked me to marry him. It’s funny because even though I knew it was coming eventually, I was filled with emotion and began crying before I could answer him. He thought he did something wrong… poor guy. I kinda just smiled through my tears and nodded yes. A few minutes later I asked him… oh I never really answered you did I? So I had him ask me again so I could verbally accept :). The first times he didn’t get down on his knee b/c of the rocks. When we got to a spot that wasn’t rocky, I started laughing and said “Ok, here’s good”, took off the ring and had him get on one knee. He was (jokingly) pissed off that I was asking for a third proposal, so I just said “Well as it appears you’re irritated now… ok” He was a good sport about it. He’s actually been more mushy than me… He wasted no time introducing me to his parents as his fiance.
We’re planning on a Fall, 2011 wedding. I’m sure I’ll be on here a lot with plenty of questions! Can’t wait.
