Hi Bees! I am an occasional lurker on this board and decided to join after my Boyfriend or Best Friend of three and a half years proposed on 3/30! I did not see it coming at all. I knew we would probably get engaged sometime this year but I figured it would be more towards the end of summer or beginning of fall.
My sweety and I met in the Fall of 2009 when he was in town to see the Cowboys play a game in their first season at the new stadium. We lived over 6 hours apart, but both felt an instant connection so we started dating and were able to see each other about every other weekend. After three years, many flights and driving over 70K miles between the two of us, he moved to the Dallas area in December 2012. I have loved being able to see him on an almost daily basis.
On Saturday, 3/30 we were just planning a date night at a nice wine bar we have been to several times before. My antennas really weren’t up because he usually plans a nice date night for dinner, the opera or symphony at least once a month. The whole way driving to the wine bar he was just as cool as a cucumber- we were just discussing who all would be at the family Easter shindig the next day.
When we got to the wine bar he already knew the bottle he wanted to order, which wasn’t unusual so I still wasn’t thinking anything was up. Then as he toasted to us he said he had a surprise for me and pulled out a blue shiny Easter egg. As I opened it I saw a little jewelry pouch. He took the pouch out of the egg and then pulled out the ring and told me that meeting me was the best thing that ever happened to him and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and then asked me to marry him. I was so shocked I just shook my head and said yes.
I couldn’t believe he had pulled off such an amazing surprise. We had never even gone to look at rings or anything like that. I was amazed that he had the confidence to shop by himself and pick one out and I LOVE it! The next day the whole family was so happy for us and my sweety brought champagne and orange juice to make mimosas for our Easter Brunch.
We know that we are going to have a long engagement. We are giving ourselves until November to just enjoy being engaged and to set a wedding date, looking towards Spring/Summer 2015. Until then I am just going to enjoy spending more time with my fiancé.
