first of all, HI! I’ve been stalking around on these boards for a long time now but I’ve never really wanted to register until now. Anyway my name is Jenny, hi!
My boyfriend… well Fiance (eeee!!) proposed to me last wednesday. To be honest I was sort of expecting it, but I was trying really hard not to hold out any hope… you know, just in case. Anyway we had planned this lovely mini holiday on Pender island. We booked an adorable little cabin (with a private hot tub!) for two nights and had a lovely time. The first afternoon we arrived we went on a little hike down to a beach. He pointed out this lookout area and asked me to sit with him for a while. I was feeling restless and bored, but he insisted that we just sit and look out at the bay. Anyway then he started talking about how he “should have done this a long time ago” and suddenly he was on his knee and holding out this cute little wooden box. Inside was the prettiest most sparkly ring I could ever have hoped for! Its really beautiful. Unfortunately it was also waaaay too big. Turns out I really should have gotten my ring finger professionally sized rather than just using stuff I found on the internet… oh well.
We got home on Friday afternoon and decided to take my ring to a jeweller to have it sized. The woman at the store was totally unhelpful, and its going to take up to 10 business days for my ring to come back!! Boo hoo!! Needless to say I’m heartbroken, and totally missing my precious. Right now I’m wearing an old ring that he brought back from mexico for me as a placeholder, but its just not the same.
I have a question though. We’ve decided not to tell anyone about our engagement until after my ring comes back… but i’m just ITCHING to start announcing it. Do you think we should wait, or just go ahead and announce it now? Thanks for reading, and again HI!

I think you should wait! 🙂 More fun with the ring!

Welcome to the boards! I think you will be happiest if you tell your close family, such as parents and siblings, but wait to tell everyone else. Part of the fun for me was not mentioning it to people at work and waiting for them to notice my ring. 😉 The excitement is so awesome!

Congrats and welcome to the boards! :”]] Personally, I wouldn’t be able to hold in my excitement soI would tell everyone and just simply say why I don’t have my ring. But then again, it’s just as fun to tell everyone and be able to show them the ring!

Thank you for the welcome, and for the input.. I’ll admit i’m completely torn. I think we’re going to stick to our original plan of not telling anyone until after it comes back. I’m stressing out about that too. the woman at the store was so completely unhelpful so I’m not even sure my ring is going to fit properly when it comes back…. now it might be too small.

I just received my formal proposal and ring 2 nights ago–yay! However, my fiance and I have been engaged for about two months. We reserved a venue and set a date and I definately told people because i was so excited! It would have been fun to wait for the ring before telling people, but I don’t regret telling people because, to me, the ring is the symbol of your engagement. With or without the ring, you are engaged and if you’re bursting at the seams to tell someone, you should go for it! If, however, you want to wait and show your hand, I’m sure your ring will be here sooner than you know.

We were engaged without a ring too and we were going to wait until we got a ring to tell people and I lasted oh about 36 hours before I started telling people. 🙂 Go for it, I wore my mom’s anniversary band until we got a ring about a week later and I thought it was fun because there was the excitement of telling people and then being able to show off the ring when we got it – it felt like the engagement lasted twice as long. 🙂

We got engaged but didn’t tell anyone till after I got my ring made, which was 6 weeks later. By the, it felt kinda of anti-clamactic telling everyone because I felt like I had already been engaged forever! Just my two cents!

Congrats!! I would wait – it’s much more fun to hold up your hand along with the announcement! 🙂

congratulations!! what did you decide to do? wait or tell?!

I ended up waiting, but it wasn’t as long a wait as I had originally thought it would be. My ring came back after only 5 days! I called my family almost immediately.
I decided not to mention it at all at work (like brideatbeach did), and just let people notice. Word got around really quickly through word of mouth though. It was SUPER fun having people coming up to me all week saying congratulations without me even having to announce it!
