Hi Bees! I’ve been asking so many questions lately, sorry. My question today (so far) is for which activities do you take off your ring? I am worried that sleeping with my ring on will damage it somehow. Can I shower with it on? Will the chemicals in the soaps cause the finish to wear away quicker? I have a solitaire, plain band 14kt white gold ring for reference. Thanks so much, ladies!

I took it off for all those things: dishes, sleeping, showering. The dishes and showering were only because it was a little loose (now that I wear it with my wedding ring it fits fine) and I was afraid of it going down the sink. I took it off at night because it’s kind of high profile and I sleep with my hands under my face, so I was afraid of gouging my eye out! I don’t think wearing it to sleep could damage a ring unless it was like really soft metal or something.

Nope. I put mine in a box when I go to the gym, dishes, cleaning and shower. I only wear it when I go out of the house. I have 18k yellow gold, which isn’t as hard of a metal as white gold, from what I’ve heard (depending on the alloy used). My friend does everything in hers and she has white gold. So it depends on your comfort level. But I really wouldn’t use any harsh cleaning supplies with it on. I would take it off for that or the gym at a minimum.

I wear my rings most of the time, including dishes and showering. I take them off for: sports, gym, gardening, anything messy like painting or heavy cleaning (ie with bleach), dyeing my hair.

I take off my ring to shower and do the dishes, simply for the sake of not wanting it to come off (my ring is pretty loose when my hands are wet). I also take my ring off to sleep, but that’s mainly for personal comfort, I don’t like the feeling of wearing jewelry to bed. However, I do know people who hardly ever take their ring off and it’s fine, so I think it’s a matter of personal preference.

I have a plain band platinum solitaire and I take it off right before bed and put it on after my morning shower. I don’t sleep well with jewelry on. But otherwise, it’s on.

I’ve only been engaged for a month, so I’m in the same boat! Congratulations! I have been taking it off at night to go to the gym and sleep, and then I’ll put it back on in the morning after I shower. I’ll also take it off to cook, clean, and go swimming. I’m hoping to get a plain wedding band that I can just keep on all day and night long, but for now, I’m super careful with my e-ring!

I take my ring off to shower, doing dishes, cleaning the house, cooking (depends on what I’m cooking), washing my hair, and going to the gym. My ring is a little loose, so anything where I am really using my hands, I take it off. However, I do sleep with my ring on most nights, unless I forgot to put it back on after doing one of the things listed.

Yes to everything and I wear a gemstone.

I wear mine when I sleep because my mum told me it’s harder to steal that way. Thanks mum! That’s so reassuring…
Mostly I take it off to shower, unless my finger has swollen in which case I leave it off. Same for when I go running. If I can take it off, it comes off.
For the most part though, it comes off for exercise, washing dishes, cleaning, cooking etc.
I don’t take it off to wash my hands though – far too worried I could knock it down the plug hole!

I take it off for doing dishes, showering, sleeping, I am not sure how it affects the ring but I am more comfortable doing these things without a ring.

Mine comes off for the following: Dishes, dealing with raw meat/stinky foods, working out, sleeping, showering, putting on lotion. Essentially anytime I have a worry of it slipping off, getting damaged or dirty.

I take mine off for all of those things plus working out, applying moisturizer, cooking certain things, and any tasks where my hands could get banged up or really dirty. I’ll wash my hand or rinse a dish with it on.
I clean it once or twice a month and take it for inspection every 6 months.
I also have a claddagh I wear on days I can’t wear my ring because I’m doing one of the things mentioned above or possibly if I’m traveling. I wore it on that finger for 13 years before getting engaged so we thought it was a good placeholder when needed.

My ring is always on, I never take it off for anything and haven’t for over two years.

Been engaged since May… Solitaire in a white gold pavé setting… I used to take it off to shower… but then I hit it accidentally and it fell into my vent… Luckily not going far and I could reach it… Ever since it never leaves my hand unless I am doing a sporting activity (can’t wear jewelry when we play and I have a special Tin that I place it in securely)… If I an doing yard work and such I use gloves… and have no issues with doing my dishes as I have a dishwasher… 🙂
