Hi, Bees! I am a long-time lurker (5 months) on the Bee and am so excited to announce that I am engaged!
(The picture isn’t very clear- sorry!)
Mr. S and I have been together for 9 months. He is 29 and I am 30. We both knew that the relationship would be something special pretty early on (by the fourth date, for me). We both have had somewhat difficult lives, and we feel we have found something beautiful and spectacular together. He originally suggested we go look at rings in January (at five months!), but when I suggested we go for another visit, he shot down the idea because he just wasn’t ready (and who could blame him?). Then, about a month ago, I confessed that I had been eyeing some particular rings online and he confessed that he was going to suggest going to pick a ring soon anyway. I showed him my sinful browsing, and he was impressed by my taste. Eventually, we designed a ring together and I waited. When the ring arrived, it was so beautiful, he had to show me, and it was dubbed “The Precious”. Still, he wanted to wait for a particular date to propose.
This week, we went to Mackinac Island, which is a gorgeous island on which vehicles are not allowed. We walked our butts off (despite eating like a pig, I only gained a pound from the whole trip), and on the second day of our stay, after touring the island, we walked up to arch rock, which looks like this:
I went to look at the view, and he said something like, “Hey, SweetandSimple, look over here,” and I turned to see him on his knee, holding The Precious. He asked if I would marry him, and though he doesn’t like to show it, I could tell he was feeling really emotional. I said, “Of course!” and pulled him into a hug. I love to see him smile, so I then started telling whatever jokes I could to make him laugh.
Alas, the next tour group was already coming through, so we made our leave, hand-in-hand, in search of an ice cream to celebrate.
We’re still working on telling the important people in our lives, but I’ve been on this site for so long that I was just DYING to join! I can’t wait to post along with the rest of you!
