- Wedding: October 2013
Background: FI (feels so great to say that!) and I have been together for almost 5 years now, and I’ve been a lurker for quite a while. We had always talked about getting engaged, and we looked at rings and even talked about some details.
We were planning a great trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico as a winter getaway, and were going to be leaving a few days after Thanksgiving. Over the past few weeks, I had caught a few hints that it might be coming, and started to get very excited! I could just imagine him popping the question at sunset on the beach, even if it was very clichéd.
Fiance and I had to leave our house at 4:30AM to make it to the airport, so obviously I was pretty out of it and tired. He told me to wait inside because it was very cold out, and he would load our bags into the truck (true gentleman). After he loaded the bags and I hopped in the truck, he said “Could you get me a tissue out of the glovebox?” I turned on the overhead light and popped open the glovebox and there was the ring!!!! He had set up flowers all around the open ringbox, it was so beautiful! He said it actually took me a minute to respond because I was so stunned. But of course I said YES!
He explained that he had planned to propose in Mexico, but that he realized that he wanted it to be more private and more us. And, he said that this way we’d have the whole week in Mexico to celebrate our engagement, just the two of us, before coming home to start planning. He even called it our engagement-moon! I’m so amazingly happy and even after a week of tropical weather and margaritas I can’t stop looking at my finger and sighing!
