I recently got engaged and am still coming to terms with being engaged and the idea that we’ll be getting hitched for real (and not just in my daydreams). This brings me to something I’ve been wondering for a few days now but haven’t dared asked anyone because I feel very silly about it:
How do you wear your engagement ring? Obviously on your finger, but when are you supposed to take it off? Do you take it off when you go to bed, when you shower, go to the gym, cooking? Or are you supposed to leave it on for all eternity? I’m worried about damaging the ring so any sage advice from you more experience ladies (and gents?) would be much appreciated.
The man got me a very classic white gold, diamond solitaire ring. It’s not very big at all but it is raised and sticks out a bit.

I wear mine all the time, except in the shower (because I use really goopy hair products) or if I’m doing something really dirty (like washing super greasy pans).
I also don’t wear it to the beach or pool because mine is a tad big, and I’m afraid to lose it.

I actually only where mine when I’m outside of the house. I originally thought that I was supposed to wear it all the time, but I realized I really didn’t like wearing any kind of jewelery around the house so now I don’t.
I don’t think there’s any hard and fast rules. I’d say do what feels best to you and congrats on your engagement!

I never take mine off. Has only been off my hand to clean and buff it.

i wear mine all the time, i only take it off if maybe i’m cooking something where i need to mix stuff with my hands etc

I wear mine all the time, except for when I’m cleaning with chemicals or doing something like painting or cooking (when my hands have to be submerged in food, like when kneading dough).
It’s pretty much up to you, and depends on what you’re comfortable with. I have a fear of dropping my rings or losing them, so I rarely remove them.

You can wear it however you want.
I do not wear mine while sleeping, bathing, swimming, gardening, cleaning with chemicals, or if what I’m cooking requires me to get my hands involved.
One of my friends takes hers off as soon as she gets home from work. She only wears it at work or social events.

I only wear it when I’m outside of the house. I usually take it off when I get home from work. I don’t like to shower, excercise, clean, cook or sleep with it on. It’s really just personal preference. If you love to wear it all the time then do it!! If you feel more comfortable taking it off when you get home — that’s okay too!!
Although I will say that my Fiance has started to notice that I don’t wear it around the house and teases me about it. His most recent one was “Oh no ring! Guess we’re not engaged anymore!”

I take mine off when I’m cleaning, swimming, working out, cooking, using hair products, sleeping, and showering. I also don’t wear it much when I’m in the house because it was a magnet and I always hit it on something.
Congrats on your engagement!

Thanks very much for all the responses! Trial and error seems to be the way to go, I think I’ll wear the ring when it feels comfortable and take it off when doing something that might get it dirty or scratched. To my man’s despair, I’m extremely good at loosing things so it is probably safer to leave it on my finger for most of the time!

I only wear mine when I leave the house too. I do too much with my hands at home and I’m too much of a klutz that I’m afraid of damaging the ring.

I take mine off for bed… otherwise it would scratch me in my sleep. Also, I work in a hospital and I don’t wear it there because I put on a lot of gloves. Otherwise it’s on my finger! 🙂 I think it’s important to rock your ring out in public but it isn’t a must when you sleep or shower. Congrats on your engagement- how exciting!!!

i wear mine all the time except for when i go to spinning class and do the dishes. other than that it’s on me. i know everyone is worried about losing diamonds and what not, but i figure it could happen even when you are being super carefu(been there, done that…OOPS!.) i think it’s personal preference though.

I don’t wear mine when I sleep, anytime I’ll be submurging my hands in water/liquid (bath, shower, cleaning, swimming) , or when I’m cooking and I need to work with my hands. But otherwise I wear it.
congrats on your engagment!

I usually only wear it when I’m out of the house (although sometimes I wear it around the house when I’m lonesome for my Fi–we’re in an LDR).
I always take it off at night and when I’m exercising.
Mine is rose gold, which is soft, and has engraving and accent diamonds so I need to be really careful with it. My wedding band will be a smooth band without diamonds which I’m planning to keep on at all times.
