Hello ladies! I am brand new to the Weddingbee site because I am newly engaged! We are planning a long engagement – two years plus a couple of months (no set date yet) – so I know that there is no rush to plan. But I am marrying the love of my life, so I am very excited and want to get started! I was wondering…what should I do first?
I am interested in engagement things like parties and photos, but since the engagement will be so long, I am not sure when do actually have those take place? Also, what wedding advice would you give me on getting started?
I just graduated college and have been with my FH for almost four years, so it will be more than six years by the time we are married. We are so excited about this time in our lives, as we’ve been in a long-distance relationship the whole time we’ve been together.
Also, if anyone has tips on using this site, I’d love to hear them! Thank you!

What should you do first? Daydream! Talk about it constantly, show off your ring, stock up on bridal magazines. It’s what we all did! (and still do)

Oh, and book a place early so you have the best date selection for the place of your dreams! We had to pick a place based on available dates, and that was almost an entire year out! Places book fast, so start looking!

Congratulations! It’s so exciting, isn’t it?! I am in the midst of a long engagement as well (22 months total, we’re about 16 and a half months away right now). My first piece of advice would be to pick up some bridal magazines and get yourself a planning book! I am using Mindy Weiss’s The Wedding Book and I love it. It’s pretty comprehensive and has a lot of neat ideas I would never have thought of. My second piece of advice is don’t get too overloaded or lock yourself down to too much right away! You might change your mind about your colors six months from now, so just start thinking about the look and feel you want your wedding to have–and start thinking about your vendors, too. It’s never too early to think about a photographer or booking a reception space. We got engaged in November 08 and took a few months to just relax and enjoy it. I started thinking seriously about things in late January/early February, and by March we had booked our reception space and catering. Now I am plugging along with photographers and musical entertainment. It’s been relatively stress-free because we have so much time, so enjoy it! 🙂
