Hi Hive! I recently got engaged to an amazing man and I can’t wait to start planning the wedding… Here’s my dilema: my fiance is a Marine and is currently serving overseas in Okinawa, Japan. I want to try to include him in the planning process but I know that he will only be able to visit every 6 months. Obviously it isn’t a good idea to wait too long to start planning and making major decisions about things like venue, food, attire, etc.
What would you do in my situation? Any suggestions as to how to keep him included?? He will be living in Okinawa until about a month before the wedding so I can’t put too much off!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I planned while Darling Husband was across the country, so I feel you. For the most part, he just trusted me to make decisions. I’d send him some photos to get input, and he’d let me know, but ultimately I made most of the choices. When I knew he was visiting, I planned a full day of vendors, including flowers, tastings, photographers, etc.

I would take as manay pictures and email his as many options as possible. I know its not the same thing but when Fiance and I are making a joint decision, one person will pick their top 3 and the other will decide from those 3 options. You could easily do something like this with things that he cares about. I would ask him which parts matter to him and which decisions he wants to be included in and go from there.
Welcome to the Hive and Congratulations!

First off, thank your fiance for his service to our country! It is greatly appreciated. Secondly, thank the Lord for camera phones and online shopping. You can send him links to things that you like/insperations. You can send him pictures of what you like/ask opinion. My Fiance works out of state and is home one week a month so I sort of feel your pain.
