@buzzyplush:  If I may offer you a piece of advice…. choose your battles. Is this really something you want to expend your energy on, or is it just easier to smile to yourself that your SO has left his mark on the kitchen, close the door, and go about your merry way? On bigger stuff, like your SO leaving a sticky, ant-inviting mess all over the countertop, it may be worth talking to him. But on something small like leaving a door open, it’s probably wiser to change the way you think about and respond to the situation. That way you don’t waste time and energy on the little stuff and have it to spare for the bigger stuff. Just a thought. 🙂

It looks like you got a poltergiest in there!  I don’t know…if you can’t screw around with the man your living with…who can you screw with?  If it were me, I would know that calmly discussing something like this would be futile…so I would do something really childish and lame to express my displeasure….any way you could use some of that contact paper upside down? That way his special little box of Cheerios will get stuck to the shelf…or you could just hide the stuff that’s in the cabinets he leaves open…and when he asks where it is…you can be like, “We have gnomes dumbass!  And unless you close the cupboard doors, they come in here and steal our shit!”

Haha! This is hilarious! I must admit though, in my relationship – I’m the one that leaves everything open! Ever come home to an open freezer? It’s not cool (pun intended)! Fiance has the habit of not putting anything away… If he comes home during the day for lunch I’ll know exactly what’s he’s made – everything is just left on the counter!

My Fiance leaves the cupboard doors open too!  I never noticed until recently, though.  It’s not something that bothers me.  What DOES bother me is that he will walk from the shower to the closet, then leave his towel in the closet without bringing it back to the shower.  I’m like.. don’t you need that later!?

I am flabbergasted that so many people leave cabinet doors open. Why? Why would anyone do that?!

@buzzyplush:, this would totally drive me crazy.

To be fair, I was the one who had habits that drove my guy crazy when we first moved in together. I always left my dishes in the sink & promised to “do them later”, but it’d take me days to get to it. It drove him nuts. Now, 5 years later, I always rinse/put dishes in the dishwasher or wash them right away. We just had a relative move-in with us for a few months and she’s a “wait for later” dishes person. Guess who it’s driving crazy? Me! My DH just laughs about karma.

In my old house, I took all the cabinet doors off… I hate them! Because we rent here, I can’t do that…

my Fiance does that all the time. the only thing that drives me crazy is him leaving all the damn lights on when he walks out of a room or destroying the kitchen when he makes dinner and not cleaning it up

Mine does this too! He says he hates to sound of them closing, so he leaves them open. WHAT? That is so weird. So I slam them closed! hahaha

It’s been 5 years of this and no change, so just get used to it.

Hahaha. I joke with my husband that he leaves a trail of evidence when he gets home from work. I can tell what he does after he gets home by where he leaves his work clothes, his soda can, the TV remote, etc.

Next time he leaves all the cabinets open just say “Wowww, the poltergeist struck again!” My friend’s husband had a habit of leaving drawers and cabinets open.  The thing is, that he didn’t know he was doing it.  So one day, she left all of them open and told him “Honey, I would like to show you something”, then took him on the trail of everything he did that morning.  It was eye opening for him, because he honestly didn’t know he was doing it!

I used to leave the top of the qtip holder off.  I would take it off, and honestly forget to put it back on.  My roommate always put it back on for me, until one day she showed me that I was doing it.  I now am careful to always put it back on!

My SO leaves crumbs on the counter and it drives me BONKERS!!  That, and he’ll leave a soda bottle of juice pitcher in the fridge with like, a mouthful, left.  ARGGGG!!!!

hehe this makes me think of when Charlotte moved in with Harry on SATC and he left tea bags every where!

My husband leaves clothes every where in various stages.. some dirty, some clean, etc.

Fiance leaves his clothes in a pile in his room. Mind you, he does have a washing machine and does know how to use it, he just waits and waits until it’s a massive pile of every item of clothing he owns to take initative to clean them. URG. Doesn’t he realize that’s like 3x the work??

Also, he has all his dishes in a pile in the sink. Where they’ve been for months. (Granted, the kitchen has to be renovated so all we eat is takeout and ramen anyway, but still!)

Sigh.

My Fiance leaves his giant size 15 shoes in the middle of the floor for my tiny 5’2 self to trip over them. All. The. Time.
