So I think I want to try the STM method to avoid pregnancy. But I have some questions:
1. You’re supposed to take your temperature upon waking, after at least 3 hrs of sleep, and within +/- 30 mins of the same time every day. This is fine with me as I get up at 8 AM every day of the week. My question lies here: What if at, say, 6 AM, I woke up and had to pee. I am then moving around out of bed (thus most likely raising my temperature), and go back to sleep for <2 hrs until 8 AM. Will my temperature reading still be accurate at 8 AM? Is there a way to account for discrepancies like this?
2. (This may be TMI) After I orgasm, my cervical mucous is, um, abundant…for a long time afterwards. And it’s always, always the kind STM describes as “fertile” mucous, i.e. stretchy and slick and clear. It’s like this for at least a full 24 hours after orgasm, no matter what time of my cycle. So if I orgasm midday one day, the next morning my mucous is definitely not going to be back to normal for that time in the cycle. Again, is there a way to account for this type of discrepancy? I have enough sex/orgasms in a month (lucky me?) that this might honestly throw off that half of the method, and I don’t want to rely on temperature alone to give me an accurate prediction.
Sorry these are probably weird questions. This is the control freak planner Type A in me come out to play 🙂 Thanks in advance ladies.
