Charlie is super cute!
FYI, good luck putting your foot down on Chucky, but it might be a lost cause. My son is named Vincent, and I have been fighting for the 3.5 yrs he’s been on this fair planet with my mother over the nn “Vinny”. I call him Vincent, his father calls him Vincent, he calls himself Vincent. We have all corrected her, to no avail. She even asked DS what he wanted to be called and he said “Vincent”. Go figure, she still sticks with “Vinny”. It wouldn’t be so bad if DS didn’t have a really Italian sounding last name, but he does, and Vinny [insert mobster sounding last name here] just doesn’t not work for me!

that’s a tough one too! My neice is Evelyn and we started calling her “Evie” pretty early on thinking it was cute. As soon as she could talk, she started correcting us saying “My name is Evelyn!”. We’ve called her that ever since 🙂 Maybe if he says it enough she will eventually concede.

I may be aging myself… but Chuck totally makes me think of this scene from Can’t Buy Me Love:
[Dinner conversation at the Millers on report card day]
Ronald Miller: Here is the primate example. You raise a doll-chopping homicidal maniac, and what do you do every time you see him? You give him money. Great!
Chuckie Miller: Chillin!
Rons Dad: Shut up, Chuck!
Chuckie Miller: I was talking to Ma!
Rons Mom: Shut up, Chuck!
I voted for Chase. I like it because it’s less common than Charlie.
I’m sorry you have to deal with such difficult inlaws! Thankfully in our family I’m the difficult one when it comes to naming 🙂

I voted for “other” because I like Chip as a nickname for Charles.

That’s different. I have also heard of Cash, Cal, and Carl but am not a big fan of those. Thanks for the imput!

I voted for Charlie for a few reasons. One, as someone who comes from a family where all of the men are named “Bentley”, I can completely sympathize with the confusion that could come if your baby had the name nickname as his daddy. My brother goes by his middle name (and has his whole life), but his son goes by “Ben”. It would be very confusing at home if they both went by the same nickname.
I also find the name Charlie to be adorable, both for a little kid and for an adult.
I think if you like Charlie better than Chuck or Chucky, then you and your husband need to compromise. You’ve agreed to name the baby along with the family tradition, which is something you could have easily fought your husband on. You should get to decide the nickname. Emphasize the importance of lessening confusion at home, as well as the importance of your son having his own separate identity. It gives you a stronger argument.
I think if your husband agrees to stand by you with the choice of name, your inlaws have no choice but to go along. If they don’t, keep (politely) correcting them until they get it.

Definitely Charlie. Why would they want to call your husband and son the exact same name? That seems weird.
And I could never call someone Chucky with a straight face after that movie.

I like Charlie. I think Chase is a cute name.. but doesn’t really seem like a NN for Charles. I’d go with Charlie.. super cute name!

Ick, good luck to you.
I’d tell my Mother-In-Law that I don’t like Chucky and that Charlie or Chase is the name!

Thank you. I knwo DH and I need to come to an agreement on this and we’ve had many discussions about it. We have agreed not to use Chuck or Chucky and I think he’s pretty much leaving it up to me to decide the nickname at this point. It so important to me that our son have his own name, his own identity and I think DH is starting to understand why that’s so important to me. I don’t think DH ever felt like it wasn’t his own name as he went by a slightly different nickname than his dad.
lol. Thanks 🙂

I like Chase. But Charlie’s cute too.

Sometimes kids pick their own nicknames, and sometimes you will just know when you have him home. I would startout calling him charlie and stake your claim there 🙂

Charlie! I love this name and have been trying to convince my Fiance that it’s the perfect name (for our hypothetical child 5+ years from now… we’re planners!)

I love Chaz, its super cute

Charlie when he’s a kid. I hope you get to name the next one all on your own though since your DH got this one!! 😉
