I know hindsight is 20/20, but WHY did you go back to this place after they botched tightening the prongs the first time?! I would cut and paste everything you just typed into a yelp review so that everyone can avoid a jeweler like this. Any jeweler that tells you its normal for a stone to be shifting and loose is a bad jeweler.

Also, maybe this time you should look into getting a raspberry/rubellite colored ruby this time instead. Rubellite is only about a 7-7.5 on the hardness scale (below an aquamarine and emerald, both of which are not very recommended for daily Engagement Ring wear) so it is very likely that the jeweler wasn’t even abusing or mistreating the stone for it to be fractured.

That really sucks though ๐Ÿ™ I hope you find a nice ring and stone!

@PeachSnapple:  I’m so sorry this is happening to you. My fiance and I have had a similar situation and we are in the process of finding a new ring as well. We also went the custom route and found it to be a nightmare!!! The ring we ordered which i’ve posted on here many times was a morganite and diamond halo set in platinum. When my fiance received the ring we picked out together it was sent a quarter of a size bigger than it was supposed to be. I went a few weeks before sending it all the way back to Los Angelas since I was so excited to have it. There were a few things that I wanted to address with them that I was unhappy about in regards to the band and they were more than happy to fix everything as well as resize it. So we insured the shipping and sent it back. When I got it back there were more things wrong with the band than when I sent it there and was just so so disappointed to say the least.

It was a really hard thing to decide but I had to go with my gut and demand a refund from the company because I was just not confident in their craftsmanship for my “forever ring.” All of the pictures I posted on here were from before I sent it out to be resized and I did truly love it. I just knew that, like the PP said about not continuing business after being so disappointed, was not a good idea, so we decided to choose a local jeweller. We will hopefully find one this week! Again, sorry you have been let down, and I wish you and your fiance the best of luck in your new ring search!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Wow, this sounds seriously awful. Make sure they pay you exactly how much you paid for the center, and not what they appraise it for! Let us know how it turns out?

My God, that is awful. I agree with GoldfishPie; put this on yelp or another review site so people won’t make the same mistake. I’m currently going through getting a different engagement ring and I know how it feels not having your ring for a week and it SUCKS. I can’t imagine being without it for four months! I’m glad you’re staying strong throughout this; a lot of people wouldn’t be able to.

@PeachSnapple:  Oh no I am so sorry. I highly suggest putting them on blast via YELP and sites like it so people know what happens. Also call the Better Business Bureau and send the store a copy of what you sent to the BBB…

Maybe that will light a fire under their butt a little.

@PeachSnapple:  I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad time with this ๐Ÿ™ I understand why you went back to them, because they should have been fixing their mistake, not making it increasingly worse. I really hope you do get a new stone, and I’m sure it will eventually all work out, you’ll get your awesome ring!

We’ve also had a rough time with our custom ring. And I’m sorry I find some comfort in the fact that we’re not the only ones – some family and friends have made us feel like we should have known better than to go with the first TWO jewellers we tried. They were both well-known, reputable jewellery stores – how were we to know they’d screw us over?? We’ve obviously never had a custom engagement ring designed and made, it’s totally new to us.

The first jeweller warned us about the blockiness of the CAD drawings and actually made the ring. I was sooo excited when we went to pick it up, and it turned out to be terrible ๐Ÿ™ It was worse than the drawings, poorly made, crooked and looked like it would cost $10 at a flea market!! When we questioned him, he blamed our stone shape, saying it was way too high, even though it was completely normal proportions for a cushion cut Yell AND said that’s what people get when they want the “cheap” option – we never said we had an issue with money or the price, but I hardly think $2500 is “cheap”. We think he just thought we were a waste of time because we had our own stone and weren’t buying it from him. So we asked for our stone back and left.

The second jeweller just stuffed us around for over a month, kept telling us the drawings were coming, and kept giving excuses as to why they didn’t have them yet, so after we had enough, we told them not to bother.

Third time has really been a charm. Within 2 weeks of initial enquiry to our current jeweller we have had the original design and two changes made with updated drawings, and they are soooo professional and friendly. Our experience has made me a bit wary of all jewellers, but these guys certainly give a better impression.

The whole experience has just sucked and Fiance feels terrible for his romantic idea of proposing with the loose stone and letting me design the ring, even though I know it was very thoughful and it will be really special when we finally get the ring.
