We will not be having anything close to a formal wedding. Our reception will be just dinner and dessert. No music no dancing. A very laid back evening. The restaurant we will be having our dinner at specializes in ice cream desserts. I was thinking insted of doing a cake, offering mini sundaes.
So ladies, what are your thoughts?

I’m not a fan of ice cream (and I used to live with someone who was lactose intoerant so it was never in the house), so I’d prefer cake. But, whatever floats your boat.

Personally I really want a cake at my wedding, but if someone else didnt have cake but had other dessert? I wouldnt care, go for what you want!

I’m actually on the fence about cake, I don’t really like desserts a lot, so I would think whichever one you like the best, is what you should go with

I voted “Ice cream is OK, but I would rather have cake”, simply because I am lactose intollerant.
If you are only serving ice cream, I would not be having dessert

So we had a very small, laid back and informal wedding as well without dancing or music and the like, and our “reception” was actually just a sit down dinner in the resort dining room (they set up a square banquet table in a private area with a fireplace and such).
Anyway, we had no cake as neither of us really even like cake, particularly my husband who was doing most of the planning. As we had an a la carte menu for the entire dinner, guests were free to order whatever they wanted and this included their dessert. I think this worked out great, as people got the things they liked (like creme brulee for my sister, and ice cream for me). No one complained about not having cake or anything.
So….yeah, I see no problem with ice cream myself. If the place specializes in ice cream desserts, perhaps they/you can offer guests a choice between 2-3 options (obviously this highly depends on the size of your wedding!).

The lactose issue is something that didn’t even cross my mind. We have a very small guest list so that is something I can look into. Thanks for bringing it up!

Personally, I like there to be some choice in what I’m eating, so if I were lactose intolerant or had any allergies (will there be nuts on the sundaes?) I would have the choice of cake. Even if it’s not necessarily a wedding cake, but just different options for dessert 🙂

We don’t really like cake, so we had mini cupcakes, and pie and ice cream. People are still raving about the no-cake solution.

I like it when there is cake AND another dessert. Because I am a pig and I want to eat all of the desserts.
But I would very happily eat ice cream!
