@MrsRichard:

Catholic churches are often really beautiful on their own and don’t really need too much decoration.  I probably wouldn’t even notice if there weren’t ribbons on the pews or whatever.  If it doesn’t bother you and they don’t really want you to decorate anyway then don’t worry about what other people think.

I am thinking the SAME thing.  Our church has said they don’t want many decorations, so I am honestly probably not going to do any.  I would rather spend the money on the reception.  If I do anything, it will probably be one alter arrangement or a few flowers on the sides of the first few pews—-but that all depends if I have extra money left in the budget, which is looking very unlikely.

I wonder the same thing, if people will wonder why I left the church undecorated.  That said, they will probably totally forget whether the church was decorated or not within 30 minutes of leaving the ceremony.

As the previous posters mentioned, many churches are charming enough on their own; I didn’t decorate my chapel at all and nobody noticed. I don’t think you need to worry.

It’s totally appropriate to not have decorations in a Catholic church for a wedding during Lent, and, as PPs have said, I don’t think anybody will even really notice.

If you felt like you wanted to do *something*, the most appropriate thing to do would be something very spare and subdued: maybe some stalks of pussy willow in a vase, or some prairie grasses or plain greenery. It would also be smart to show it to the priest/parish coordinator/Altar Society person to make sure they’re cool with it. They wouldn’t want you to do anything flowery or brightly-colored, but something neutral would probably be okay.

Catholic Churches are one of my favorite things to look at, despite my being a pretty failed Catholic lol. They need no decor! I think adding ribbons and way too many flowers just takes away from the architecture and design that already exists. It will be lovely all on its own!

I agree 100% with PPs, I was raised Catholic & probably the only thing I still adore is the churches…the feeling I get when I walk into a Catholic church with all the stain glass windows, and the architecture is usually just gorgeous. No decorations necessary!
