Has anybody here NOT done a hair/makeup trial and still been pleased with the results?
I’m considering hiring fairytalehairandmakeup.com to do hair & makeup, but their total for Day-of (no trial) maxes out my budget for that. However, I’m thinking I might be happy without the trial, for several reasons…
1. I’m not expert on makeup & hairstyle and don’t have hard-and-fast ideas of what I should look like other than, “Natural” & a half/loose updo. I’m counting on the experts to guide me and make me look good.
2. These guys seem to be top-notch (they regularly do makeup for David Tutera’s show)–I can trust their professionalism in terms of scheduling, and the results.
3. #2 above seems to mean I can relax and be confident that they will be there and be awesome (I’m a worrier).
4. My wedding is on a Sunday in two months and I’m having trouble finding someone local and in-salon who is available (salons closed on Sunday, getting late to be booking anyone).
5. My contact at fairytalehairandmakeup.com says my artist/stylist will be avialable to discuss plans/needs ahead of time via email even if I don’t do a trial. I mostly-liked my DIY makeup (my biggest concern) from my engagement photos, so I can send a pic and say, “Like this but with more on the eyes,” etc…
So, do I go ahead and book them with no trial before day-of? Any advice Bees could share would be awesome!

I had my hair/make-up done with no trial. I was very happy with how it turned out. My situation sounds similar to yours. I didn’t really have anything set that it had to be, like a specific hair style, I just had a general idea. They should know what looks bridal and they do it all the time. I am also a big time worrier, but I can also be really laid back.
If it is in the budget do it, but if not it sounds like you will be beautiful regardless!

@thenuggetbride: “I am also a big time worrier, but I can also be really laid back.” That is so TOTALLY me! I stress out about things but am not controlling (if I had $20,000, I would SOOOOO be handing this whole thing off to a coordinator with no more instructions than “picnic-style” and “elegant.” LOL!).
Thanks for the encouragement!

I did not have a hair/make up trial either….I just brought a couple pics of what I was looking for (both hair and make up examples) and it came out wonderful! You’ll look beautiful, try not to stress.

I had a trial and honestly, at this point, I don’t think it will matter much. I am a week away, and my hairstylist has cancelled, so my trial with her was kind of all for nothing. So now there is a different girl at the salon taking over. She is experienced, but still irks me.
All good though. I am kind of glad I did the makeup portion though because we figured out quite a bit of things that we differed on. She did my makeup a little dark, and we had to go back and change it. We got all the colors hashed out, so the new person will know what I want now, which is nice because I don’t have to deal with redoing my face 3 times on the wedding day.

We had a Destination Wedding last month and I didnt have a trail run or anything for hair and make-up and to have a trail run done in the states was pointless. I couldnt have been happier with the results – hair and make-up were fabulous!!!!!!!!!!! Just take pictures and examples of what you are looking for and you will be fine!
GOOD LUCK – everything will work out for you 🙂

We eloped back in April, and I found lady on Craigslist a month prior. All I saw were pics from her FB page. I was totally satisfied with her work. MUCH more so than a professional that had done my makeup a mont prior for an event.
But, I am also very much go with the flow. I took a couple pictures of what I wanted hair and make up wise, and she gave me her thoughts and ideas. I would say go with it 🙂

@39bride: Exactly! It’s kind of funny because I had a Destination Wedding and DID have an appointment for my trial. I went to the spa for the trial and they couldn’t find my appointment and were freaking out about what to do. I thought about getting upset for a few minutes bc it seems so important, then I told them that it’s no big deal, I’d rather be at the beach right now with my Fiance, friends and family anyway! So I went to the beach and my hair and make up turned out perfect on the wedding day!

I went with a local salon that was recommended by our venue. Since we had a destination wedding, a trial wasn’t possible for me. I took some photos of what hairstyles I liked and the stylist did an awesome job in my opinion! I was very pleased with how hair and makeup turned out. Just because you pay for and go through a trial run, doesn’t guarantee your hair and makeup will look exactly the same the day of the wedding. If the place you are looking at is reputable and has good review, I say trust that they know what they are doing. 🙂

Thanks, guys! You’re awesome! I had considered trying to do my own makeup again (no way I can do the hair) but decided the stress wasn’t worth it. If I went with a cheaper place I would do the trial, but since they’re so awesome, I’m gonna go for it.
Off to put down a payment!

I’m not sure this is what you wanna hear, but I did not have a trial (destination wedding) and was disappointed in my makeup. Liked my hair! Luckily it was an easy fix =)

I’m not doing a trial to save money. For hair and make up the day of it’s $168. It would cost the same to do a trial. I don’t have $168 to blow on a trial. So I’ll be brining lots of pictures and hoping for the best. I’ll let you know how it went in 4 weeks!

I didn’t decide to get a hairstylist or a mua until 2 weeks before my wedding so I went without trials. I was extremely happy with the results of both! The ladies were professional and took what little idea I had of what I wanted and made me look amazing.
