@Tbblount: well our SOs sound like polar opposites so I won’t bother telling what I’m getting mine. If I were you I would go to REI or Outdoor World and ask what the hot new gadget is for whatever activities he liked best.

If you know his friends it might be helpful to call them up (or even his dad) and ask them if there is anything they know he needs/want that is outdoor related.
You could always also add is a yearly subscription to a hunting/fishing/outdoor magazine because it is a gift he can enjoy all year!
If he actually owns fishing stuff or hunting gear you could go to a local store and ask them what would be good accessories to buy.

Since he’s into the outdoors stuff, check out a KA-Bar knife. They’re made for the marines and guys love them. You can use them for everything including hammering in tent poles. I got my husband one last year and he loved it. 🙂

@Tbblount: Along the same lines as a PP, I recommend a Benchmaid Knife. I think they may be overall more expensive than the brand previously linked, but they have a lifetime warranty and will sharpen the blade for you for free (you just send it away). My S/O has similar interests to yours and loves knives and his Benchmaid is his favorite, barnone. Whenever anyone needs recommendations for a gift for a guy, he suggests a Benchmaid. He was really mad at his sister for not getting her husband a Benchmaid for their wedding gifts to each other, lol.
That said, I’m getting mine a tablet and either a new wallet or a sweatshirt with his grad school’s team on it as well as probably some other small things, so totally in the other direction.

Check out places like REI, Basspro, llbean, cabelas and dicks sporting goods. I’m making my SO a razor with a deer antler for the handle. 🙂

I know the feeling of having no idea what to get your Fiance. It took me weeks to final have him break down and suggest what he wanted. Usually figuring out what to get mine isn’t to bad because Costco tends to have some awesome items at this time of the year but Oklahoma doesn’t have a store. What I would do is wonder into one of the stores that specializes in his area of interest and ask a associate their thoughts on different items in the store.

@Tbblount: Hmm, good question. I would get smooth or partially serrated, definitely not fully serrated (not sure if they even make those). I think with Benchmaid a smooth blade would be a good move because they’ll sharpen it for you for life, but with another brand you may look in to serrated because a dull serrated knife is more useable than a dull smooth blade. I would google the question if I were you, though.
