If I’ve learned anything by planning a wedding (even a small one), it’s that it’s almost a given you’re going to go over budget. There are so many little things (like favors, a guestbook, chair rentals, etc.) that you don’t think about at first. If I was you, I’d pick maybe 2-3 things you really want and can afford, like a pretty dress, a photographer for a few hours, and a big-ass bouquet. With those three things, I bet you’ll feel like a bride and you’ll get your moment. Your parents may even be more than happy to chip in for the flowers or photos. Enjoy being engaged for now, look through some magazines, call some venues and get prices, and you’ll start to get a feel of what’s important to you. When I started planning, I quickly learned that I didn’t care about all the extras and hoopla that so many people focus on. At the end of the day, you’re married and that’s all that counts.
