I just read this, they are proposing no more Saturday mail delivery. I understand the budget cuts and all the hurt email has put on them. But this slightly freaks me out. Doesn’t it always seem everything you are waiting for comes on Saturday? Then, every other weird Federal holiday is on Monday, so you wouldn’t be getting something until Tuesday. It just doesn’t sit well with me.

they keep blaming email – what they need to do take a closer look at their own organization. The post office in general, and certainly all of the ones i’ve visited, no matter what time of day or part of town, is pretty badly run. When’s the last time you walked in, got someone friendly with no wait, and left happy?

I read this a few minutes ago – – WTF…..

I agree. There have been all sorts of mismanagement in USPS. I am sure there are a lot of other things they can do to keep Saturday mail. I’d rather have no Monday mail (because it feels like about once a month anyways) than no Saturday mail.

@MelissaBegins: I think it must depend on where you live. I’ve never had a bad experience at my post office! I know every clerk there by face, and some of them even recognize me too! They’re always very friendly and helpful, even with the customers who are being complete jerks. I’m amazed at how even keel they are! Plus they like to save me money (by suggesting cheaper ways to ship my stuff) so I kinda love my post office!
FWIW: They’ve been delivering mail on Sundays during the busy holiday weekends in order to accomodate people, so I don’t know that I’m actually bothered that they won’t be delivering mail on Saturdays. I just want them to keep the post offices open on the weekends! I always need to mail something off on the weekends, so if delivering no mail means I can still send stuff I vote for it!

I’m so mad about this. Everytime I go to our local post offices (I frequent 2) I get looooong lines, snarky rude people and once I got the door shut in my face even though they didn’t close for another 5 minutes.
Maybe they should think of cutting the salaries of the higer ups and keeping it open on Saturday. I have no problem with the postal workers who acutally are out there delivering mail in snow, rain, sleet, hot, cold whatever they earn their money but then you get the Postmaster General who in 2008 made OVER $800k in total compensation and retirement benefits. More than DOUBLE what the President makes! Yep you read right. Read about it for youself here.

@mighty – your post office sounds nice! I need to start visiting the post office in Colorado next time — probably will take about the same amount of time than waiting at my local USPS ;o)

Yeah, that sucks really bad. So no mail on saturday, no mail on sunday, and no mail on holidays that fall on a monday… fabulous. They may as well only function 1 day a week.

I’ve only ever had one (remotely) good experience in a post office, and nearly fell over from shock when it did happen. All the others make me not want to use it at all. Their lack of customer service skills as well as organization and everything else wrong with them is completely unrelated to email, and email should not be blamed for the problems that the USPS refuses to resolve. Punishing the masses by cutting out Saturday deliveries will not resolve anything either.

I fogot that in the US they even deliver mail on Saturday! Here in Canada, that just doesn’t happen. It would be such an advantage to be able to send/receive mail on the weekend!
