Ugh. The place where we purchased the setting said they would need to mail my ring somewhere to do the appraisal and that it would take two weeks. No thank you. Thankfully I do have the center stone insured, but getting an appraisal has been on my to do list for the last 6 months. Ugh, I feel your pain.

I had to leave mine with the store too.  They usually have a whole lineup of appraisals and work to be done, so they can’t just fit yours in at any given time, ya know?

Every time we’ve bought rings, they’ve given us documentation with it.  I’m confused why your store didn’t do the same…I also have had no trouble meeting with someone to get an appraisal.  Try googling local gemologists in your area and calling around.  Someone must have the time.

I’m a little confused by your story.  If you bought the ring and are returning it within 30 days, then why do you need an appraisal at all?  Just return it to the store where he bought it!

@Christy42213:  i think she is trying  to say that if it was appraised for less than she thought, she would want to return it? not sure.

i had to leave mine for a little over 24 hours. that’s typical. most places don’t do “on the spot” appraisals.

I called around and found a jewelry store that would do it while I waited.  It cost more to do it that way, rather than just leave it with them, but it was worth it to me.  Did you call around to multiple jewelers in your area?

Why won’t you leave your ring? I left my grandmothers wedding band which I’m using as my wedding band with the jeweler for three weeks for an appraisal. This is normal practice for you to leave the ring so they can do the work, its not something that takes them 3 three minutes to do.

I would “return” it, repurchase it and leave it at the store where you want it appraised… (3 weeks seems a bit much to me though O.o)
