I would definitely be upset if I had to have a c-section. There is nothing wrong with that either. It doesn’t mean I’m shaming women who elect for c-sections or need one in emergency situations.
I just don’t want surgery. I don’t want to be cut open. I don’t want the longer recovery time. I don’t want to deal with trying to VBAC in the future. And I do want the experience of a vaginal birth. When the time comes, if I need a c-section for my child to survive of course I will go willingly and without complaint, but it still doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to feel sad about it or anxious/nervous or whatever the hell else I want to feel.
Also, saying “doulas with nose rings” and referring to Ina May as some hippie midwife is just as bad as the old midwife ads that called them “filthy” and “unclean”. That is absurd.
I agree that there is no right way to have a baby. But this article really is just as bad.
