I just ran into this situation. We absolutley do not want children at our wedding. I just added something little on the paper that gives all the hotel info and how to book your room…We did it kind of nonchalantly…. I put………….

“Even though we love all of the children in our lives, we request this to be an adult’s only evening”

@AlmostMrsMayo:  Address the invitation to Mr. and Mrs. John Smith (not the Smith family).

Then on the response card put:

We have reserved 2 seats in your honor.

___ of 2 will attend

And if you have a wedding website you can have an FAQ section and have one of the questions be:

Can I bring my kids?

While we know how much little ones enhance our lives, our wedding will be an adult only affaire. So leave the little ones at home and come enjoy a night out with us.

(Or something like that)

We didn’t allow infants, toddlers, and young children at my first wedding, but only for the reception, and we had a sitter at the hotel the reception was at in a room and ordered pizza. As people with children responded and indicated they were bringing their kids, my mom of his called and told them that the children were welcome at the ceremony, but would be accomodated with teh babysitter for the reception.

So, we didn’t put it on our invititation, but I would definitely put it on your website, whether you find a space for it on the invitiation or not.
