Our venue requires that we use a specific caterer. The caterer says they “don’t do tastings” because they make the food in bulk. This makes no sense for, say, a chicken entree where they could clearly make just one. I get that they don’t want to make an entire casserole, but seriously, we’re just supposed to trust that it tastes good? They offered to let us taste something specific if they cook it for another wedding, but it’s been months and they haven’t called about the food we wanted to try.
Has anyone else encountered a caterer with no tasting option??

i would keep bugging them – like hey, are you making this soon? what about this? – maybe they’ll give in and make something just for you! you have a lot of time, so don’t stress too much just yet!

Our caterer doesn’t do tastings either. But I’ve eaten with them before so I know their food is Amazing! But yes, I thought it was strange that we couldn’t have a tasting.

I nixed one venue because the didn’t do tastings. Tastings are funny things though. It’s much easier to make one dish that tastes really good but expand it to making 100 and the results might not be as wonderful. I’d try to see if you can get to do a tasting before or after a wedding since they are making “bulk” food. They sort of made that offer anyway.
