I am looking to send out my Save-The-Date Cards very soon. We are having a Destination Wedding and want to give people about 1 year notice. We haven’t done our engagement pics yet and probably won’t have time to if we want to get these puppies out. Plus, we live in Chicago and the weather is shit right now. Is this a big deal? Every save the date I’ve gotten always had a cute picture of the couple on it…what is the point of engagement pics if you don’t put them on the STD?

We didn’t pic a pic on ours, but that was our personal preference. You have to decide what is more important to you, having a pic on the Save-The-Date Cards or getting them out asap. The “point” of std’s is to give your potential guests advance notice of your wedding date and location. They should already know what you look like : )
Here’s mine for reference:

We also sent out our Save-The-Date Cards before our engagement pictures. They turned out pretty good too!

We didn’t use pictures for ours. Here’s a pic of the sample one. It’s a magnet!

@starcatcher09: YES! totally want to do the magnet idea, who is going to keep a piece of paper for a year??

We had engagement pics and never planned to use them for our std’s. I really don’t think you HAVE to use them. I loved our e session as it gave us great pics, a trial run for our wedding and made us a little more comfortable for the wedding.

We didn’t have a photo. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever gotten one with a photo from anyone else, either.

I didnt even really understand the concept of engagement pics myself. We didnt do that, and the Save the dates we did were actually just over the computer. I wouldnt worry over it. You can always get engagement pics done and display them at your wedding!

If you really want to add a personal picture, do you have a really nice one of your venue that you took? My Fiance and I were thinking that we’d use the door to our chapel as a Save the Date picture instead of us. He recently broke multiple bones so he’s not getting in front of the camera any time soon.

You don’t have to use an engagement photo.
My FH and I used a templated STD that followed our general theme, but didn’t even completely match our color scheme.
It was just a heads up.

@Lily_of_the_valley: I don’t think it matters if you have pictures on the Save-the-Dates or not. I think it is a matter of personal preference. But I did notice that your wedding date looks like it is April 2014 so couldn’t you still take e-pics in the spring? 🙂 And if the pics don’t get on the save-the-dates you could always either put them on your wedding website, your invitations, or use them at your reception somehow. 🙂

@Lily_of_the_valley: We didn’t take any e-photos. I made our StDs on Shutterfly.com using one of our vacation pics!

No. We sent out our STD’s at the beginning of the month and our engagement session is next month. We are doing picture Thank-you cards instead.

There’s a lot of fun STD templates online that don’t involve pictures you could coordinate your theme or colors into it. Or…my Fiance and I set up a tripod and shot our own STD photos.

We didn’t have engagement pictures done for our save the dates, but we did want some pictures for them. We went out to a nearby park on a whim on a nice day with a camera and tripod, and had our own little photo shoot! We managed to snag a few shots worthy of our save the date magnet, and they came out super cute!
