It seems every time I find a nice father/daughter dance song, it mentions god/jesus/heaven etc and since almost my entire family (including myself and my father) are ‘secular’ they are not really appropriate.
Has anyone got any suggestions? So far all I have come up with that I feel are suitable are Frank Sinatra – The way you look tonight (which I love, but doesnt give me that mushy feeling) or Guns n Roses – Sweet child o mine (again which I love and would be great as a fun dance, but it would be nice to have something slower)
All suggestions welcome!

@Bears-bub: If you want to do something really non-traditional, you could perhaps do a song that reflects something about both you and your dad, but isn’t necessarily a father-daughter dance kind of song. For example, if the two of you love the movies, maybe you could dance to a piece from your favorite one, or something like that. My dad is very proud of his Polish heritage, and so we decided yesterday that instead of doing something traditional and sappy, we were going to break out into a polka!

I’m doing “Isn’t she lovely” by Stevie Wonder. It’s fun and classic!

I’m dancing with my dad to Kind and Generous by Natalie Merchant. Fiance is dancing with his mom to Johnny Cash’s version of You are My Sunshine.
ETA – @sweetiejewels: I love that!

“What a Wonderful World” covered by Carnie Wilson (faded out about 2 minutes in). I love the Louis Armstrong version too, but this one broke up the all male singers for our first dance, father/daughter, and mother/son.

Paul Simon, “Father and Daughter” is a really sweet one, totally secular.

@Bears-bub: Why not let your dad pick the song, and surprise you with it? I think that would be fun, and I think I’m going to ask my dad to do the same thing.

I am trying to come up suggestions for my dad too. He has a strong preference for older music. I’m thinking about suggesting “G-d Only Knows” by the Beach Boys but I am not sure I want to commit to it because of the Love, Actually reference. (I like the movie, but I don’t want people to think that’s why I picked the song.)
