My dad HATES country music. He likes metal, rock, oldies, all that sorts of stuff. Think Iron Maiden, Elvis, Scorpians, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, ect.
But I’m finding that most father/daughter dance songs are country. He wouldnt like a single one of them. Anyone know of anything that could work?
I was thinking Changes, the Kelly and Ozzy versian. But my mom listened to it and doesnt think its a good dance song, and now I’m second guessing it.
This is it if anyone wants to listen.

I don’t have any suggestions, but i’m commenting so I can follow because i absolutely don’t want a country song for mine either.
the only one I’ve been able to think of is “I’ll stand by you” but my mom thinks it’s a sad song, so not appropriate…

@allyfally: I think Simple Man by Lyrnyrd Skynyrd might be good… if you can ignore the genderness.
Queen: You’re My Best Friend
Guns’N’Roses: Sweet Child O’ Mine
I see “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin suggested a lot on non-country father/daughter threads but … I’m not sure … it’s seems a little lover oriented to me.
I was also thinking along these lines for music and I listened to Changes and, it just didn’t do it for me as a dance song either.
But, I did think about asking my dad to pick one to see what he thought!

This one isn’t probably going to be quite his style, but we’re using Nothin’ Can Change This Love by Sam Cooke. Very appropriate (for both mom & dad actually, which is good since we are doing the dances together), and short! Easy to dance to as well.

@QueensBee: Yeah, I also see Thank You as a lover song. I also always thought of You’re My Best Friend as a lover song, so I couldnt imagine dancing with him to that either. XD
@lilchicana: Not his style at all, unfortunately.
@NAvery: Such a cute song. But you’re right, definitely not something he would like.
@Wenstendi: Good for you?

@NAvery: I just listened to your sam cooke song and loved it! I showed it to my mom and she said it seemed more boyfriend/girlfriend. But i don’t think so! ugh… I think the only songs that are distinctly father/daughter are country songs and I SOOOO don’t want that

My dad and I danced to Edwin McCain “walk with you.”
I listen to country all the time, and I wouldn’t call this song country.
Edited: Tagged the wrong bee! Oops!

@littlemisst08: Really cute song, but my dad kind of hates Edwin McCain.
@MrsPhilly: Ooh, I like this one. I’m gonna run it by him and see what he thinks.
Anyone else got any ideas?

We used “What a Wonderful World”, which qualifies as an oldie, but I’m guessing a little too chill for your dad.

I played it for my parents last night too and they both loved it. I’ve never heard it before but found it on my google quest for non country songs. I think I was specifically googling Billy Joel because I love him! Hope your dad likes it too!

We did “I will be there” by Art of Dying. It’s not your traditional song but we are soooo not the cheesy song type people so it worked for us.
