Hey Bees! So, I really want to order some pretty “sugar” flowers to go on top of my cheap, Publix cupcakes. The only ones I am finding are gumpaste flowers or royal icing flowers. I have heard the gumpaste flowers taste icky, and the royal icing flowers are super fragile. Has anyone used anything else? Or have you used gumpaste and/or royal icing and liked it? I appreciate any and all suggestions!

Generally you don’t eat either. Gum-paste isn’t for eating & royal icing will break your teeth!!
Have you thought about using buttercream roses? They are beautiful & any baker can whip a handful up in 10 minutes. I can pipe a rose in less than 30 seconds 🙂 Buttercream is always the best option in my opinion… I always encourage people to pick edible & delicious over pretty. BC roses are both though!

Yes, i would prefer a little buttercream rose on the cupcakes, but that changes the price of the cupcakes from $0.83/cupcake for $3/cupcake. (I know, right, WTF? I know it does not cost $2.17 in labor to make one rose.) Which is why I have been looking for something *like* gumpaste flowers that I can just put on after I buy the cupcakes.
But thanks for letting me know about the Royal Icing flowers! I have found someone that uses potato paper, edible ink, and a sugar coating to make butterflies….I was hoping for tropical-ly flowers, but I think I may order a batch of the butterflies and see how they work.
