@AB Bride:  True, and you are probably entirely right as you sound a lot more educated about it than I do. I guess I never really looked into it too hard because we don’t use them (or intend to).

@MrsPanda99:  Fair enough.

I think I had found a link and posted it a while ago about the pros/cons of each.  I can’t find it now though ๐Ÿ™

WB should have a sticky of the effectiveness of all the different methods!

@AllyV0621:  When I was a teen I used BCP, then I decided I hated it. So I switched to condoms. Then we didn’t like those and decided on the POM and natural family planning. I wouldnt reccomend that unless you are in a stable relationship though. The POM will not protect you from STD’s obviously.

@AllyV0621:  I am also someone who has a copper IUD (the Flexi-T 300, available only in Canada now. . . I tried the Paragard and it was too big for my uterus size, so finagled going to a gynecologist on Canada to get this IUD). I absolutely LOVE my little Canadian IUD. It never bothers me and it has actually reduced my cramps and bleeding (WEIRD, I know; I have heard of maybe 4 other people who have had this effect from a copper IUD, but it usually has the opposite effect on periods).

I can’t recommend the copper IUD highly enough. Thank goodness someone invented ones that work well! (I sound like an ad! Oh dear. . . I’m not, believe me.)

@lolot:  Gosh, you have a copper IUD too! Is it a field biologist thing? ๐Ÿ˜‰ (I hope that doesn’t seem too weird!! I think we are pretty similar in a lot of ways– it’s fun when that happens!)

@AllyV0621:  I hate bcp’s and have been using VCF spermicide film strips. I haven’t gotten knocked up, and they are very easy to use. This is Too Much Information but my DH did notice that things…were different down there, but not a bad smell.

@AllyV0621:

I have a Gynefix Copper IUD. It’s still in the clinical trial period but it’s a very very small IUD, made for women that haven’t had children and doesn’t have the normal side effects of other copper IUD’s (excessive bleeding and cramping). It is in the shape of a lower case I as opposed to a upper case T. I’ve had it about 4 months and I love it.

PM me for more information if you’d like it ๐Ÿ™‚ non hormonal birth control can feel like the holy grail.

@FutureDrAtkins:  You are so NOT a wuss !!  When I had mine implanted, I thought I was dying…seriously.  I’ve never had so much lower abdominal pain in my whole life.  I also went from a 3 day “nothing” period to a 7-day super-heavy one, which is ultimately why I had mine removed.

That being said, while it was in, it was really great for sponteneity and not having to *think* about BC when you’re “in the moment”.
