Agreed… since you’re not the Maid/Matron of Honor, a different material will make you stand out more, which may be weird – I’d go with a satiny one.

I agree, the difference in material will really stand out when you’re all together – it might be best to go satin.

No, it won’t look strange at all. Trust me on this. This is what I did with my BMs and that’s how it worked out, and it looked lovely.

I had my girls do the same thing and I did worry just a little that the color might look different on different fabrics.  However, even the dresses that had some chiffon had satin too and they all looked perfect together.  I think David’s offers a big selection that makes it easy to mix and match.  If you have any doubts, put the dresses you love up against the two styles that have been picked and see what you think.

If you would be the only person wearing a different material, I  think it might look strange if you wore chiffon. If you were the maid of honor or if a couple of the other bridesmaids were choosing different fabrics, I wouldn’t think it would look too strange.

I say go for the dress you like.  If the bride doesn’t care, then there shouldn’t be an issue!

I was in a wedding where we were all supposed to pick long satin dresses, the style of them didn’t matter to the bride. One bridesmaid liked a style that was in chiffon a lot better and didn’t even think about it and bought it (maybe she forgot?). It was a pretty obvious difference in person, but not that obvious in the photos. The bride was a little dismayed by it, but in the end it didn’t really matter.

If the bride doesn’t care, then go for the dress you like the best!  I don’t think it’s going to matter at all tbh since everyone will be in different dress styles anyway!

I think you can totally go for it. My girls are going for mismatched dresses also and they can pick whichever fabric they like as long as the color is the same. I’ve looked at tons of pictures wondering the same thing, but as long as the color and designer are the same the combos always end up looking nice to me no matter the fabric. Also, if you still just love the dress and it did make you stand out a litte you could always say it’s because you’re the grooms sister 🙂

Here’s an example. Looks great to me!

My girls chose any dress as well at DB as long as they were the same length.  One chose a raw silk type, two were satin and one was more a jersey knit type.  They all look just fine in the photos too! You can’t even tell.

@mssocks: I agree. The bride already gave you the go-ahead, so get the one you like and don’t worry about it.

If it were my wedding I would prefer the satin material because I”m a matchy matchy person, but if the bride doesn’t care then go with what you want since you are probably paying of it and you are more likely to wear it again if its the dress you picked out.
