I find this works best when you choose one color, length, and perhaps a fabric type to shoot for. Mine was really easy. Black, knee-length, and chifon. I ended up with this:
Both girls also ended up liking one shoulder dresses,so they coordinated even further. I would definately at least pick a color though to help your girls out.

Thanks for the further advice guys 🙂 Also, this just makes me want to pick black even more – alas, cultural background says “no” and also black is not a favourite of either girl…

My BMs are wearing different styles, different colour, different but similar fabric and same length. Like you, I don’t have a Maid/Matron of Honor. I really don’t like matchy-matchy outfits so it was easy to let the girls pick the dresses they wanted. My only stipulation was that the colours compliment my theme flower which is plumeria/frangipani. I would recommend that you go shopping with them and have them try on as many dresses as possible so that they get an idea of what they like. Getting custom dresses made sounds like a PITA to me I was lucky that my girls found dresses that they liked from the same designer, Bari Jay. Pics below are the colour inspiration and then stock photos of the two dresses.

I completely agree with PPs there needs to be some cohesion, wether it’s colour, length, same cardigan, accessories etc
