I was just browsing a few of the blog posts mainly dealing with invites. They’re all gorgeous around here on WB. Lovely paper, fancy ink, great custom designs, nice little bows to top everything off. I started thinking about how I had no ideas, really, for what my invites would look like. And how the awesome photo-postcard STD ideas I’ve recently thought of were really nice, but have been done a million times. How could I make my Save-The-Date Cards unique? What is something that Fiance and I have in common, that could easily be represented? Honestly… we really do not have that many interests in common. It’s amazing, I never really thought about it. About the only thing we really do together as a hobby is have a goofy little Pez collection. It’s not spectacular like most real die-hard Pez collectors, but we try to get brand new ones, of either a TV or movie theme, and we do our best to get the entire set of whatever is out.
And then it hit me. Pez dispenser STDs!!
Get a whole lot of random, out-of-package Pez dispensers in good condition (anything still in the package, and new from a store, is at least $1.50 a piece). I’m currently stalking a few misc. lots on eBay. Take a paint pen or Sharpie of a contrasting color, and write “Save the date” on the side of the dispenser body, turn it over, and write the date on the other. Substitute a “Save the date for H & S’s wedding, at X-location” tag for the “how to use a Pez dispenser” instructions, and tie it to the neck. Pop it in a bubble envelope with some actual wrapped Pez candy to go with it (super cheap, availible everywhere), and voila! Something a little different, I doubt it will cost any more than going with a fancy print company, and hey–free candy for the guests. People will remember that, I hope. 🙂
I think I’ll do a test run or two with some of my ‘maids and my mom, to see how well an opened Pez dispenser, not protected by a pouch of air, will hold up through the mail. I think they’ll do alright (the candy may be iffy). Maybe I could even find or make something like a Pez stamper to put on the envelope to decorate it a bit.
What do you think, Bees? Any suggestions to make this even more fun?
