You really have two choices.  There are wedding officiants you can hire that will work with you to have whatever kind of ceremony (and in whatever place) you want.  You probably don’t know one, but you would work with them before and might strike up a rapport with one.

Depending on your state law, you can also have a friend or family member register to be able to perform your ceremony.  This obviously gives you someone you are close to, but not everyone is comfortable doing it.

If you don’t want a religious ceremony, I wouldn’t go with a pastor. They usually put some religion in there because it’s their profession 🙂 But, you can get a friend or family member to get ordained online and they can perform the ceremony. Make sure you research local laws on this beforehand. My brother was curious about the whole thing and got ordained online 10 years ago. He was a college minister at the time, but not ordained. His friends loved it and had him perform ceremonies all the time. Now he has been to seminary and is truly ordained, but it was still an interesting thing. In Georgia, if you “believe” the person is a minister, then they can legally marry you.

We hired a wedding officiant. She is absolutely wonderful and is working with us to make our ceremony to make it as religious or non-religious as we want. No, we didn’t know her when we first met with her, but we’ve gotten to know her through meetings/phone calls, etc so we feel very comfortable with her now.

If that still doesn’t sit well with you I would look up the local laws about having a friend or family member officiate for you as PPs have suggested.

@Corilee13: I would just google it I guess.
