I know there was a similar post to this a while back, but most of the recomendations were for religious officiants who would do a non-denominational ceremony. We want to find some of those completely civil officiants. In NYC, it looks like it has to be a judge or civil clerk or the like. Have any NYC bees had luck tracking down any of these people to do their ceremonies? I tried to contact the city hall, but didn’t really get anywhere. Our wedding is on a weekday, so I think that will add a layer of difficulty since judges and city clerks will likely be, well, judging and city clerking. 🙂

This is who we have booked for our ceremony:
She was the officiant at our friends’ wedding, and she was WONDERFUL. She was completely flexible and delightful when we met with her, and she is a stay at home mom right now, so her schedule might be more flexible than most.
I would HIGHLY recommend her. The ceremony we saw was one of the most lovely that i have ever seen, with no mention of God, but lots of talk about the couple, their history, and their commitment to each other.

I posted on the blog about my experience getting “ordained” and legal to perform weddings in NYC and then officiating at her wedding – if you have a friend or family member that you would like to do it, it’s very easy in NYC.
