@woodwindwaker:

some people have said that my ‘walk down the aisle’ song is kind of sad/creepy/haunting. it’s cristofori’s dream by david lanz. which i love because it’s my last name. but i’m just in love with it.

Interesting question…Personally, to me, that song *does* sound a bit sad… So I must be in the camp of people who find all/most minor songs “sad.” Sorry, can’t be more helpful…

We’re doing this for our pre-procession, but I would find that too “sad” for our procession…

I play the piano, and I LOVE some of Chopin’s pieces, especially the Nocturnes. Flip through some of them on YouTube!

I just went through some to refresh my memory – Nocturne #20 in C-sharp minor is beautiful.

I love minor key music too 🙂 My piano teacher as a kid let me pick my own songs to learn and I ALWAYS picked minor keys and songs that had big loud chords 🙂 Around the 1:35 mark on Nocturne 20 would be beautiful for your entrance! Now I’m all inspired  Tongue out Let us know what you find!

Here’s a few – I know there would be more I’d recommend, but this was some of what was handy on my iPod:

Bach double concerto for 2 violins in D minor

Bach sonata for viola da gamba in G minor

Minuetto I & II from Bach’s cello suite no. 2 in D minor

Sicillienne from Faure’s Palleas et Melisande

3rd movement of Schumann’s 2nd symphony in C major (the 3rd movement is minor)

Beatles Michelle (actually a mix of major & minor)

I think it’s funny when a lot of people characterize music in minor keys as sad.  I find just as much minor music that I’d call angry or just dramatic instead of sad.

Darn it, I had some great ideas for this thread the last time around and forgot to post them. I’ll see if I can’t dig up a few of them again when I get home from work…hold that thought!

In the meantime, have you looked up the Vitamin String Quartet on YouTube? I think they’ve covered a fair amount of songs in minor keys.

If you’re having live musicians you could always ask them to up the tempo, a lot of the time the reason minor songs sound more sad is because they are often played quite slow.

I agree that minor music is almost always more passionate and emotional. I’ve always preferred it. Here’s a list some people contributed to, mostly non-classical
