So, we’ve been playing around with music selections for our wedding and are struggling to decide on a first dance song.
We both agree we don’t want something sappy (like Thinking Out Loud, Amazed, etc) and we both like the idea of a song that’s more along the lines of “I’m better with you” / “we’re better together” / “you bring out my best” / etc.
So far we have landed on a few options but none of them quite fit the bill (though they are all great choices and I would be very happy with ant of them. Just figured maybe there is a song out there that is absolutely perfect and I just haven’t thought of it or come across it yet).
– Bright by Echosmith is currently the lead choice. It’s a beautiful song. A tad sappy but I think it’s a pretty nice level of sap and I love the whole feeling it gives off about the stars aligning.
– You’re My Best Friend by Queen is a very close second. I think it’s perfect in terms of lyrics and theme but a bit too fast / hoppy of a tune. Fiance isn’t big on dancing so he’d be much more comfortable with one we can just do a simple slow dance to and not feel weird doing it or feel like we need to add in some moves haha
– How Sweet it Is (To Be Loved by You), the James Taylor version.
I would love to hear some other ideas!

We danced to “I choose you” by Sara Bareilles. It has a nice upbeat tempo while still being able to slow dance to it.

We chose “You Belong to Me” – the Jason Wade version. We wanted something timeless but not too sappy and this fit the bill for us.
Our second choice was “Le Vie En Rose”

We aren’t a sappy first dance, we did ours to Loud Places by Jamie XX. Very nontraditional but pretty much all our guests had a ball and everyone joined in and danced with us outside which made it nicer and less awkward.

We had the same thoughts (more about being partners and less about undying love) and chose from: Come to me – goo goo dolls, Cupid – Daniel powter, life is better with you -Michael Franti, so easy – Phillips Phillips, I choose you – Sara barillies and like 1/4 of Norah jones’s Songs. We knew most of them required a fast-paced box step and a some what planned out dance with twirls and dips so we pre-emptively took dance lessons before we even chose.

This is admittedly a little sappy, but we always loved Billy Joel’s (or Diana Krall’s) Just The Way You Are.

We danced to “You are the best thing” by Ray LaMontagne. Upbeat and not overly sappy. Congratulations!

My immediate thoughts were “Life is Better with You” by Michael Franti and “Better Together” by Jack Johnson, and saw they were already mentioned 🙂 I really like “Life is Better with You” but my fiance wasn’t really a fan, and it is fairly fast. “You’re My Home” by Billy Joel is another good one.

Some might consider this a little sappy but we used the Arctic Monkeys’ version of Baby I’m Yours. It’s short and sweet.
