jolieqe:  Most major airports in europe are connected to the city by easy to use public transportation. I find wikitravel to be super helpful when researching new travel destinations. at the beginning of most articles they have a “get in” and “get around” section with the type of info you’re looking for.

jolieqe:  Side note: be aware that Switzerland is super expensive. trip advisor or wikitravel will probably be helpful for finding some approximate prices for stuff like taking the train, going out to eat, a beer, etc.

jolieqe:  The other thing to consider in terms of the logistics of  is that Switzerland doesn’t use the Euro; they use the Swiss franc.  While you can pay for things with Euros (at least at ZRH), you get your change back in Swiss francs, which obviously have little utility outside of Switzerland (ETA: and are a pain to change to Euros/you usually don’t get a good deal changing them to Euros).

I’d consider the SFO-MUC nonstop flight with a connection on to any of your chosen cities.  (Venice or Vienna would be easiest, as LH runs flights from MUC-VCE on their partner airline Air Dolomiti, and Lufthansa or Austrian will offer easy connections to VIE.)  MUC is also a nice airport in general (free wi-fi, very easy to make connections as long as you are staying on Star Alliance).
