@clairebbbear: Thank you – I’m a little overwhelmed by so many of you being so sweet about it!

As for having a non strapless dress… I went to two different bridal stores, a small independent one and David’s Bridal where I got my dress. In each case, the consultants tried to get me to buy strapless dresses. Is there a strapless dress lobby with tons of money that secretly run the wedding industry? I mean, my criteria was: cap sleeves and practical,  and they pulled out strapless bandage dresses with trains? When I pointed out I wanted sleeves I got “You can get a bolero”. Not the same! I left the small store annoyed, but it prepared me for David’s Bridal and gave me confidence to stand my ground and explain that I wanted to try on the one dress I got, even though the consultant was trying to get me into more train dresses.

@Belle_Amour:  I was surprised when I realized so many of the dresses now are strapless. Hadn’t been expecting to get engaged and never followed bridal trends.

I discovered that David’s Bridal will add (removable) straps to a strapless dress. Also, you can buy a strapless dress and wear a bolero with it. I am wearing a bolero to cover my shoulders a little bit.

@Purplejo: Thank you!

Is strapless the trend in Australia too? I swear, it felt like I was never going to find a dress with sleeves here in North America!

I am loving all these non-strapless dresses!!!! They’re all so beautiful.

I don’t have a picture of me in my dress on this computer, but here is my dress on the model. I freaking loved my dress.

I didn’t even know I wanted straps until I tried on this beauty! Now I can’t even imagine that I ever wanted strapless!

Comment by @eocenia:  “Is there a strapless dress lobby with tons of money that secretly run the wedding industry?”

LOL.

I just think it’s laziness. Dresses with straps or sleeves are harder to do as samples, because if they are a couple of sizes out the straps/sleeves will look wrong, or the dress can’t be tried on at all. Whereas strapless dresses can be clipped on more easily, even if the bride is 2 or 3 sizes out. So the consultants think they can make a sale with a strapless dress, because it’s probably going to look reasonable as a sample compared to the strapped dress, if neither are the right size.

Also possible that they see dollar signs in terms of accessories. Why include straps when you can just charge brides extra to add them, or to buy a bolero?

Shrugs. I CAN see that one… darn cynical industry! Just following some other bees dress ordeals, I can’t comprehend that some alternations are more expensive than my entire dress!

Here is mine! I always figured I’d end up with something strapless because I love ballgowns and there are just so many strapless ones! But if I could find something with sleeves that’s what I wanted because I have the typical always feeling like the dress is falling down thing with strapless dresses. The second I saw this dress I fell in love with it .

Please excuse my goofy face.

@clairebbbear:  this – I went in wanting straps, but since I was looking at a lot of sample/consignment sales, basically nothing fit right at all.  Of my final two contenders, one had straps and one was strapless (although, that said, it was one of very few strapless dresses where I liked the fit/cut)…I ended up with the strapless one b/c my mom and sister/MOH thought it suited our venue better.  But here’s the ‘almost’ dress (it looked a MILLION times prettier in real life, DaVinci Bridal needs better photographers!):

Mine is Maggie Sottero’s “Karena”.  I ordered mine in ivory lace over light gold/gold sash!
