The Vitamin String Quartet does BEAUTIFUL music — modern songs done in a chamber arrangement.  Some of the songs that will be playing while we are waiting for the guests to arrive will be their version of Coldplay’s Clocks and Yellow, The Rolling Stones’ Wild Horses, and The Beatles’ Hey Jude.  You can listen to short samples of the songs on Amazon.com.  I love the idea of taking something modern and giving it a traditional twist. 🙂

I’m doing a 30 minutes of music as well ALL non-traditional.  Here are a few of my choices:

Super Duper Love by Joss Stone

EVerlasting Love by Natalie Cole

In My Life by the Beatles

You and I by Feist and Wilco

Today by Joshua Radin

Songbird by Eva Cassidy

All You Need is Love by Lynden David Hall (Love Actually Soundtrack)

Blackbird by the Beatles

I can’t remember the other.  Hope that helps.

i’m actually walking down the aisle to an acoustic guitar playing “angel” by jack johnson. i’m pretty excited about that. do you listen to ben gibbard/deathcab for cutie? he’s got a great mellow voice. i particually love his solo stuff.

We had a rock and roll theme wedding, so our prelude music was REALLY non-traditional:

  • God Only Knows – Beach Boys
  • Soul Meets Body – Death Cab for Cutie
  • Walk the Line – Johnny Cash
  • When I’m 64 – The Beatles
  • Happy Together – The Turtles
  • Don’t Falter at the Alter – Cab Calloway
  • Let’s Get Married in a Barnyard – Bahttsi
  • Tiny Dancer – Elton John
  • Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
  • I Will Possess Your Heart – Death Cab
  • You Belong To Me – Carla Bruni (yes, the French presidents wife! She has a beautiful voice!)
  • I Wanna Grow Old With You – Adam Sandler
  • Damned if I Do – Jace Everett
  • If I had $1,000,000 – Barenaked Ladies
  • Try a Little Tenderness – Otis Redding

It’s a LOT of songs, but we had to make a CD to give them, and that was an hour worth of music.

here’s some songs i’ve done for weddings.  i know some of them seem like strange choices for a wedding, but my cousin requested them for her wedding so…  besides, most music sounds pretty elegant on the harp

don’t fear the reaper – blue oyster cult

i walk the line – johnny cash

tonight, tonight – smashing pumpkins

obladi blada – beatles

in my life – beatles

all my loving – beatles

all apologies – nirvana

come away with me – norah jones

star wars theme

You should definitely check out Vitamin String Quartet! They have a ton of popular “mainstream” songs, and they’re SO pretty!

My brother used U2’s instrumental only version of “With or Without You” as the wedding party was walking in.  I really liked it.
