My husband and I got married in the Dominican Republic in April and are having our reception back home at the end of June (not like waiting until the last min. to get things together!). We don’t want to have the typical “sit down, cut cake” kind of reception so we hired someone to play steel drums for an “Island” feel.
We are currently having someone come to the reception to make flip books–like a photo booth but you actually get a flip book instead, like the old-school ones from when you were a kid (http://www.flippinfunfotobooks.com/).
Outside of that piece, we really don’t have anything else for people to “do” aside from eat, drink, and be merry. Any other ideas? We’re totally open for outside the box things so don’t hold back!
Photo booth is out.
Caracatures are out.

Hmm fun question!
– ice cream sundae bar
– bocce ball/corn hole/yard games if you’re outside
– a message center? people can write the prompted messages on note cards for you. (see Martha Stewart)
– popcorn bar (with the different flavors)
– are you going to have music? or any dancing? or it is just a get together?
– Balloon artist! – hair braiding!
I dont’ know of any Dominican Republic traditions or anything… a lemonade bar? Daquiri bar? rum bar? hah

i was thinking of having someone go around and take polaroids and then the people in the picture would write a message to you.

How about dance lessons or some other kind of Dominican Republic tradition you witnessed while you were there?
