The finger lakes in upstate New York are within driving distance of Southern Ontario, which is convenient. You could rent a cabin on one of the lakes.

Or, you could stay in Ontario and go up to Muskoka. It’s very beautiful up there and you would have a lot of privacy if you rented a cottage.

My fiance and I just booked an amazing Cottage in Tobermory (Ontario) for our september wedding/honeymoon. were super excted, after all the planning, and family stress we just want a quiet stress free week together. Im really looking forward to it! No airports, werid languages or risk of crime (minimal risk i guess). 🙂

Two suggestions:

You could “do” New York City. Stay downtown, go on movie tours, the boat to the Statue of Liberty, take in a show or two, eat great food, etc…

You could go to Disneyworld, lots of Bees have been doing it and I’m starting to get jealous…

@Americano:  Yeah, Disney was never even on my radar until I heard people talking about it on the Bee! Now I realize I’ve been missing out!

Another city to “do” might be Boston- I always found it more manageable than NYC and it still has a historical vibe in many places.

Vermont might be in driving distance too, they have some beautiful spas/resorts and lots of outdoorsy stuff to do in the summer.

Acadia National Park in Maine is spectacular- we rented a house right on the water in Bar Harbor.

And we actually had a blast in Ottawa- hiking in Gatineau Park and along the Rideau, great restaurants, Byward Market, visiting the Canadian Parliament and all that!

I’ll think a little more and see if I come up with any other ideas 🙂

@Aisling10:  I agree with PP, if you haven’t been to NYC, it’s great! if you want something more relaxing, I would look around Cape Cod, but the Carolina’s are beautiful. Have you considered a bed and breakfast? There are a lot around New England.

I’d go to SF and then find a cute B&B in Sonoma. Best of both worlds.

Well, not in North America, but my husband and I went to Switzerland for our honeymoon. We loved it!

You should look into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Absolutely beautiful. I’ve met folks from alll over the world up there and they all loved it.

Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri. It is amazing. Look into it. We honeymooned there and had a blast!

We’re taking a different turn and heading south to….NEW ORLEANS! I’m super excited because I never really knew where I wanted to go. The culture down there is so rich and it looks like a lot of fun 🙂
