Sorry for the creepy headless mirror selfie, it’s the only pic I have! This is mine–it’s Adrianna Papell and I got it at Macy’s for a little under $200. It came with a kind of ugly plain grosgrain ribbon sash attached (hanging down off my hip) which I’m going to eventually cut off and replace with the sash above. I still need to get it hemmed and I’m stupidly nervous about it–it was only a $200 dress but I love it so much! Does anyone know if an actual bridal tailor would laugh at me for bringing a not-technically-bridal dress to them?

I had a dress from a wedding dress shop that cost $200 or so, but I bought a second dress for my reception (why not when I spent so little). This dress was from some department store (maybe Kohl’s, Target, Kmart possibly Walmart but I don’t think so). It is shorter, a couple of inches above the knee and flowy. It cost $15.

brooklynpixiebride :  beautiful dress and to me it looks like a wedding dress! DB sells some that are super similar to this.

A lot of wedding dress seamstresses also do evening/formal gowns so I wouldn’t worry about it too much!

missconvy :  This is beautiful! More than likely it’s a prom or formalwear dress, and for $250 I’d go ahead and buy it – engaged or not. Unlike bridal, which you can usually find/order from past seasons this kind of stuff usually goes away not to be found again!

I bought an ivory bridesmaids dress as my wedding dress. I ordered it with extra length and had a train altered into it; I’m short, so they hemmed the front and not the back.

brooklynpixiebride :  I don’t think so! I’m wearing a bridesmaids dress as my wedding dress. They’re even altering a train in it for me. But, my alterations are more than my dress was! Find a good place and get it done there. Love your dress!

I ended up ordering mine from the Old Pueblo Traders website-it’s ivory lace with georgette insets in the skirt,a v neck with an embroidered applique, and short lace sleeves. On me it’s floor length, but I’m not having a formal wedding anyway. It’s just dressy enough for what my fiance  are having-now I just need something to wear on my head.
