As the friend of the bride at a wedding this summer, I sat on the bride’s side. I know that’s how it traditionally goes, but I found it annoying that none of us – even her mother – could see her face the whole time, just her back.
My fiance and I are thinking of switching things up. The church we’re getting married in has curved pews in a semi-circle. We want to seat our friends and family opposite of the side we’re standing on – so that when I look out, I see my loved ones and they see me, and he can see his family and they can see him. So there’s still a bride’s side and a groom’s side, but they’renot sitting directly behind the bride or groom.
Will this confuse people? Should we give our guests any kind of heads up, or just make sure our ushers know what they’re doing?
