Hello! Sorry in advance for the long post! I’ve been struggling to find the right venue for forever. I’m really at my wit’s end here. I only lived in Indiana for about 7 months before I moved away, and now I’m moving back. I’ve looked for venues up to 2 hours away from South Bend and can’t find one due to it not being right in some way. Any help from you ladies would be greatly appreciated!
Some details about the wedding: Half of the guests are out of state. My family lives here in FL, his lives in IN. It will be a very intimate wedding of 30-40 people including us and the vendors. And half of the guests will be their children. This cancels out two things, the first being I don’t want to book a 300 person banquet hall and be secluded in some back portion of the room drowning in open space, so the venue must accomodate smaller parties. And two, the children are picky eaters. They’re not going to want to eat some remoulade fois gras caviar creme concoction, so an outside caterer is an absolute MUST.
I really don’t want to spend much on the venue itself. The overall budget is small compared to most, and I’m doing without a lot of things to try and make aspects of my vision work. Neither of us has friends or family in the biz so I won’t be able to get a discount on anything. It amazes me that people are having great 100-200 person weddings for the same or less than I’m spending. So anything included such as tables and chairs, linens, a dressing room, etc. would be wonderful. I don’t want to spend more than $1000 as I’ll only need the space for a few hours.
I’m open to anything. The top two contenders so far are Indiana Historical Soicety and Frederick Meyer Gardens in Grand Rapids, MI. I also considered having it in his brother’s back yard as it is large, but it wouldn’t work as I don’t want 40 people traipsing through his house, renting the tents chairs and tables would be at least equally expensive as a venue, and I can’t see having the ceremony on one side of the yard then going and moving chairs and eating on the other side. So please please please help! I’m open to anything-restaurants, barns, museums…as long as they let me decorate, use my own caterer, is small enough for my party, under $1000 and not more than 2 hours away. I’m hoping the wedding will be in June 0f 2015, and since I’m literally doing everything alone (no planner or bridal party) this is why I’m planning early. Thank you all for your help!
