I’m travelling home to North Jersey (Bergen/Passaic County area) and am planning to look at a bunch of reception venues. Some of the venues I am hoping to tour are Gray Cliff, The Tides, Westmount Country Club, The Brownstone, Grand Chalet and some other one my mom mentioned that I can’t remember now .
Has anyone been to any of those venues for a wedding, or is having/had their wedding there?
In a more general sense, how much time should I allot to touring each venue?

You’ll probably need a half hour to an hour depending on how much you like the place and how many questions you’ll have. I definitely wasn’t at one place longer than an hour.
The Westmount was just remodeled and I’ve heard it’s Stunning. I’ve been to the Brownstone and they do a very nice job. They do have more than one wedding at a time though so we decided not to look there but that’s totally personal preference.
The Pleasantdale Chateau is near the Westmount and is a beautiful estate if you’re looking for more places to see.
Good luck and have fun!

If you want to go a little more towards Central Jersey, try the Shadowbrook. It is beautiful!!!

The grand chalet is OK, the brownstone is excellent and the tides is very good. I would definately pick the Brownstone over the others. Great food, beautiful place.

I actually ended up booking The Tides and am very excited about it, and got even more than we expected, package and pricing wise!
I’ve heard fantastic things about the Brownstone. My mom went to visit it and said it was very pretty and the food smelled fantastic, but it was a bit overwhelming.
I have to say, my parents and I did not like the look of the Grand Chalet, but their prices were crazy good for the area. When my mom went to a tasting, she said the food is good, so it may be a good option for someone looking to save money.
Empire Club, which is actually where my parents got married when it was called Vecherellos (sp?), was nice though the outdoor ceremony area is SMALL. It’s like a tiny backyard. However, you get the entire place to yourself. They are really working on the place and were redoing the bridal suite while we visited. If you are having a larger group, I think the set up is great. We just didn’t have enough people and it would have seemed too empty. I know some people really like chivari chairs, and that’s their basic chair.
We also really liked The Graycliff. Like a lot of North Jersey places, they offer a TON of food included in their packages. We looked at the smaller room, and it was very pretty with nice high ceilings (the one thing the smaller room at the Tides is missing–high ceilings). I’ve heard great great things about the food. I didn’t love the cocktail area room. I actually hated the look of it, but the rents and Fiance didn’t think it was bad.
So that was my little tour recap of some venues in NJ

I love the food at the Brownstone but hated the location. Can I ask you to add the Valley Regency to your list. I had my wedding there and it was PERFECTION.

both are nice. The Grand Chalet is very "ballroom-y," Kind of like the old Wayne Manor if you were ever there.
FWIW, the Brownstone is owned and run by one of the families on Real Housewives of NJ. Not really relevant, but kind of interesting 🙂
