peaceallicat:  You might have to be flexible with your venue options. Would you be willing to rent a lodge/VFW hall and use outside catering? Traditional catering halls and hotel ballrooms are expensive in Jersey and $80pp is really cutting it close if you want the open bar as well.

I would check out the Westwood in Garwood NJ. I was quoted packages starting around $55 per person with food and drink For 2015 dates.

Also check out the Versailles Ballroom in toms river. It’s much farther away in NJ but also very nice and priced super reasonably.

as a general note if you can do it on a day other than Saturday you can find great pricing. We went with a sunday starting at 11:30 and were able to get a great deal. Everything will end in the early evening too so everyone has time to get home if they have to work on Monday and don’t have to leave early.

peaceallicat:  We used Camelot Catering in Spotswood and they included everything. Waitstaff, setup, cleanup, linens, dishes and flatware, table numbers, place cards, centerpieces (though we didn’t use them). We had sit down salad and pasta course, passed appetizers, buffet with 7 entrees, 2 carving stations, Viennese table, and they gave us the cake for free. I believe it was $70 something/pp. Liquor was completely separate.

peaceallicat:  Hey! I’m getting married in Union County. I would strongly recommend considering a restaurant reception. Mine is $47/per person at a small french resaurant for a sit-down 3-course meal. I’m a food writer by trade and honestly you can get wayyyyyy better food and drink if you go the restaurant route rather than the “wedding venue” route. My wedding is tiny (fewer than 30 people) and the restaurant is Chez Catherine in Westfield, but even if you’re having a large wedding there are plenty of fabulous (and beautiful) restaurants that won’t upcharge you the way an event venue will. Restaurants also tend to be decorated, unlike wedding venues, so you save big on that end as well. I’m not paying anything to decorate my reception because it’s already lovely.
