I’m planning to get married in Spring/Summer 2013 in Northern NJ. We’re hoping for a Saturday evening wedding, and would prefer the ceremony & reception to be at the same place. We’re paying for it ourselves, so we’re trying to cut costs. We’ll probably have around 150ppl. Any suggestions for a decent place for under $85-$90/pp (including tax & gratuity)? Most places we’ve seen are $90-$100 not including tax/gratuity. When you add it all up, you’re paying $120-$150 pp. (that’s over our budget!)
I’m hoping to avoid the typical “white wedding” halls, with the big chandelliers, white chair covers, cheesy lighting, etc. Outdoors/tented, open space and a casual atmosphere is definitely preferred!
I’ve been shopping around with no luck! I’m hoping someone knows of a ‘diamond in the rough’ in the northern NJ area that I haven’t come accross yet. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you are willing to go a little north (about 5 more minutes) and hit NY, you can go tothe Views at Mount Fuji (it’s literally just outside Mahwah, NJ). I was married there and it was SO beautiful!! It is certainly not your typical wedding hall at all! When I got married it was about $110 a person (with tax and all) but I did get a lot of extras. I think if you did a slightly simpler wedding it could be around 85-90.
Suggestions: Pick an “off” wedding month. Not September or May. August is much cheaper. Have passed apps only for cocktail hour (I had passed apps, 2 platters, 3 chafing dishes, 2 stations with a chef, and a raw bar). Eliminate appetizer and intermezzo during dinner (just have salad, entree, cake). Don’t get anything special (I had a steak and shrimp dinner which was a bit extra and a sundae bar). Don’t get chair covers or ice sculpture.
It is a really beautiful place and the food was AMAZING.
I think 6 apps, 2 entree choices (plus vegetarian), salad, and included cake would be a very nice wedding! They also have a beautiful outside place to get married which is pretty inexpensive. And it’s so convenient to have both things at the same place! They also include a FREE engagement shoot with Sharpe Images just for booking (at least at the time I did it).
We also did my rehearsal dinner the night before at the upstairs restaurant which is a hibachi place, it was phenominal.

Totally feel free to hit me up and I am happy to provide you with pics from my wedding or other details or info for other vendors!

Just noticed they have this special going on!
“We cordially invite you to consider our venue for your upcoming wedding celebration. To assist you in planning your affair, we’re offering a very special gift. Weddings for 50 guests or more booked before December 31, 2012 will receive either a complimentary Chocolate Fondue, International Coffee Bar or Viennese Display at your reception. The choice is yours…”
I had an Internation Coffee Bar, was awesome!

I’ve heard of people getting The Empire Club in Little Ferry for that price.

@Schatzie821: Thanks for suggesting this venue, girl! My Fiance and I are seriously going to look into here. FI and my dad hate cheese (I know..) and every single venue has been offering super cheesy foods.. I guess because Italian food is so popular!

I got married at Fiesta Banquets on Route 17…. They had an amazing room with chandelier, bar, etc. Check them out.

I went to a wedding at the Knights of Colombus in Bayonne NJ and I was pleasantly surprised by 1. The renovated reception room. It was much nicer than I had anticipated. It looked recently renovated and very nice. 2. The food was very tasty. This wedding was a buffet and the food tasted great and was very hot.
If your looking for a place on a budget it may be somewhere you want to check. Not sure what they charge per head.
Also, Victor’s Chateau in Little Falls is an option. Although I have never went, I have looked into having an event there and they had many reasonable options. They definitely have options for 90 dollars and under. Good luck with your search!
Also check Casino in the Park in JC. I believe it is about 75 per person.

I’m paying $80pp inclusive but it’s a typical wedding place so…

@jlawler0915: Casino in the Park is reasonable but the major issue is it’s not the best area to be in at night.
