My ten year anniversary is coming up with my husband. (Dating). I’ve never thought about a vow renewal really. I figured if we ever did one it would be for a 20 year or something. But even then not really. However, we are planning to do an anniversary shoot/ring exchange. It’s kind of hard to explain, but it will just be the two of us (I will even be doing our photos with a tripod) out in the woods. We plan to write each other a love letter (not vows). Just something expressing our love, how we feel about the past ten years and what we want for the next ten+ years.
We also don’t have the rings we were maried with ($15 sterling silver bands). We would like to, after reading our letters do a little “ring exchange”. My husband is gifting me with a new ring for our anniversary, and he already has his. I’ve had several different rings for birthday’s, ect. And though they all were special to me because they were gifts from my husband they were not my wedding ring. This ring will stand for a decade together. It will stand for our past, present and our future (three stone ring). This is just a little something for us (mostly me) to give our new rings meaning, if that makes sense.
So our plan is to just go off (we have a location already) in the woods and exchange our love letters and rings, have a little photoshoot and then enjoy a picnic with a small cake and wine. It may seem super silly to some people. I know we haven’t been married for 20 years. And I know to some people 10 years isn’t very long. We got together at very young ages though (15 and 17). Not long after my 18th birthday we were out on our own and started building our life together. We’ve been through a lot. (A horrible car wreck, lose of a pregnancy and money struggles). We don’t plan on inviting anyone. It will be something just for us. Our anniversary isn’t until December but we plan to do it this summer because it will be far too cold come our actual anniversary. I won’t post any of our photos to social media until our anniversary though, if that makes sense.
I just wanted to share with everyone. We don’t plan on spending a ton of money on this either. It’s just something special for us. I will show you ladies the dress I am planning to get and a few other little details to help you see my vision. 🙂

Sweet.Sugar.Rose: Contrary to what some people might say, in my opinion, 10 years IS a milestone anniversary. Whether it’s just the 2 of you or you change your mind and have some friends and family there, do it! Your plan sounds lovely. Life is too short too be worried about other peoples’ opinions. Take lots of pics too!

socalgirl1689: Thank you so much. I figured most people would think it’s an odd thing to do. But we are really excited about it. 🙂 I will definitely take plenty of photos and do a small recap!

We celebrate a bit more on the fives, ourselves, so I agree with socalgirl: ten years is a big deal.
Consider taking a picture of the rings that day sitting on the written love notes and then framing that for your wall one day, to commemorate the event. Just my $0.02.

This sounds really sweet actually and it’s good that you’re keeping it private, I think that it’ll be more special because it’ll be just the two of you 🙂 and as PP said, 10 years is a long time…especially by today’s standards. Congratulations to the both of you!

That sounds like a really lovely idea 🙂

I love it. To be honest if I could do something like this for my actual wedding ceremony i’d be so happy, but not an option for us. I say go for it – I’m not keen on vow renewals but I think this is just the perfect gesture.

apeeleing: Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate it! That was our train of thought, too. Keep it between us to keep it extra special! 🙂

I wanted to update my dress picture. I decided against the above dress due to the heat. I’m afraid I’ll roast hiking in the woods!
This one seems a lot cooler for summer.
And I’m not sure if you all would be interested in seeing the ring. It’s already been odered but won’t be here for almost two weeks. Until then, here is the stock photo. And yes, pink is my favorite color. 🙂
It’s pink topaz set in a yellow and white gold setting. I can’t wait to see the stones’ color in person!
